New York-Hudson Valley

highlands country club and Nyack seaport

Hi girls...

My guy really loves Highland Country Club because it is beauitful and has a very Huson Valley feel, but I have reservations about it. They seem very "nickle and dimey" -- basic pkg is only 3 apps, no stations, no desert but cake, $1,500 ceremony fee, no valet parking, no speakers for ceremony (yes, I know DJ can do it, but still)--and pricing starts at $90 pp (but only if your guests are willing to eat "family style" on a Friday night). Highlands is affiliated with the Garrison (which we had to rule out).

We're also looking at Nyack Seaport (the downstairs area, bc we're a small wedding of 50-75 ppl). It's got much more bang for buck (4 courses, cake and desert, no ceremony fee, solid food), but not the level of sophistication that Highlands CC offers--low ceiling, lame view, smallish dance floor. Other issues here too that make us hesitate.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on

Highlands country club
Nyack Seaport
Nyack Ceremony Sites (churches, beaches, etc.)

Thank you a thousand times in advance!

We're having our reception at the Highlands and we're really happy with our choice. We're doing the package that's $115 pp and there are 5 passed hor doeurves and 1 station at the coctail hour and a three course dinner. We we're satisfied with the amount of food the Highlands was offering because we're not looking to gorge our guests. The multi station cocktail/multi course dinner/ dessesrt bar is nice in theory, but we didn't feel you can actually eat that much to make use of it. As for the ceremony fee, I think most places will have this, no?
Also, I would clarify about the valet parking because our contract comes with it.

Thank you! Sadly, we don't have a budget for $115 pp. :-) It may be that Highlands is out for us, since the basic package is so, so slim.

I hope your wedding goes beautifully there! It will no doubt be a day to remember!

Since you are in the area, did you look at Patriot Hills? They get rave reviews on here. (I didn't look because we wanted to stay on this side of the river)

Are there other geographic area you are willing to consider? Or is it down to these final two?

(And are you sure you can meet the minimum for Highlands, when we were looking, they told us their Saturday night minimum was 125 with a max of 130 people. Obviously for a Friday, the minimum is less. But did you check what minimum you need to meet?)

    Thanks for your note, Terri!

What highlands county club told me is that the don't have a minimum per person so much as a minimum per site revenue (at least, that's how they do it for smaller weddings like mine). That's crazy that the min is 125 and the max is 130! Talk about exacting!

Right now, those are our top two, but we ARE going to see Patriot Hills on Friday ( I have sky-high hopes!) and we're also going to see NYCC on Friday too.

We put in multiple queries at Bear Mtn and Mohonk and a few other places, but they haven't bothered to reply! Bear Mountain has been especially frustrating, since I like the area but the coordinator is a repeat no show. We called and sent emails!

Thanks so much for your comments. Really helps!

I am so hoping that someday very soon we are going to find the one. I've got the guy...now just need the venue!

I'm so ready to move on to the next step!

    Lisa
