What are you doing for readings?

My Rev just asked me to pick 2 readings... I would like to do something different, but have no idea where to start.  What are you ladies doing for readings at your ceremony?

    we had two readings.  a roy croft poem, "i love you not only for what you are"

    I love you not only for what you are,

    but for what I am when I am with you.

    I love you not only for what you have made of yourself

    but for what you are making of me.

    I love you for the part of me that you bring out;

    I love you for putting your hand into my heaped-up heart

    and passing over all the foolish, weak things that you can’t help dimly seeing there,

    and for drawing out into the light all the beautiful belongings that no one else had

    looked quite far enough to find…

    I love you because you have done more than any creed could have done

    to make me good,

    and far more than any fate could have done to make me happy.

    You have done it

    without a touch,

    without a word,

    without a sign.

    You have done it by being yourself.

    Perhaps that is what being a friend means, after all.

    and we also had an apache wedding blessing:

    Now you will feel less rain,

                    for each of you will be a shelter for the other.

    Now you will feel less cold,

                    for each of you will be warmth for the other.

    Now you will feel less loneliness,

                    for each of you will be a companion for the other.

    Now you are two persons,

                    but there is only one life before you.

    Enter into the days of your life together,

                    and may your days be good and long upon this earth.

    ...hello out there!

    We're not sure yet, though I would really love to have the Robert Burns poem "A Red, Red Rose" read, though other than that, I have no idea, but then again, I have plenty of time to plan such things.

    Song of Songs 8:6

    Wear me as a seal upon your heart

    As a seal upon your arm;

    For love is infinitely strong…

    Many waters cannot quench love;

    No flood can sweep it away

    Romans 12: 2, 9-13

    {2}Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God--what is good and acceptable and perfect.{9}Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good;{10}love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. {11}Do not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, serve God.{12}Rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer.{13}Contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers.

    We did a reading from the Prophet, by Khalil Gibran- the one about "let there be spaces in our togetherness"

    I attended a wedding where they read the Roy Croft poem- it was so moving!  And I read in a wedding the Apache Blessing, also nice.

    Good luck, lots of good suggestions!

    This is a variation of what we used. I think there are a couple variations...

    A Poem Entitled "Hands of the Bride and Groom"
    "Please face each other and hold hands, so you may feel the gift that you are to one another.
    These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow, and forever.
    These are the hands that will work alongside yours as together you build your future.
    These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch will comfort you like no other.
    These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief wracks your mind.
    These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes, tears of sorrow and tears of joy.
    These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children.
    These are the hands that will help you to hold your family as one.
    These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it.
    And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged
    will still be reaching for yours,
    still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch."

    We have a lot of readings during our ceremony.  It is in my church and we have 1st, 2nd, Gospel, and an apache wedding blessing.  In place of the psalms we are having my goddaughter/cousin read an excerpt from OH, the places you'll go by Dr. Seuss.  I am really excited about that one, and being a teacher it is so me.
