Directions Insert

So I wasn't going to put a directions insert in with our invitations thinking most people have a gps or the internet now a days, not to mention our venue is on "Main Street" so it's easily located but my sister thinks I should.  My question is, do I write the directions simply 'from the North' and 'from the South' or do I have to write directions from the hotel as well?  I'm not even sure if anyone (or more than a few people) will stay at the hotel considering the majority of our guests are very local.  Ugh I really don't want to do this, I'm not very good with directions to begin with so I could very well write them and get people lost.  LOL....
TIA

We did written directions like you said "from the north" and "from the west" on one side, and then included a hand drawn map on the other side with a star to mark the ceremony venue, reception venue, brunch venue, rehearsal dinner venue, and the 2 hotels that we set the room blocks at.  Might be overkill, but I thought it would be nice for the OOT guests to have a map with everything so they could see where it all is in relationship to one another.  I just printed them on 8.5x11" paper & folded them into quarters to be slid into the envelopes.

hey! we had this debate too and in the end decided to do the insert as many of our older relatives cannot use GPS. We first got directions off google and another set from the venue then we drove them TWICE to ensure they were easy to understand.
Here is how it is looking for us:

From points south and west of Salem- get to I-95 North and follow below.

From points North- Get to I-95 south and follow below.

Take I-95 to exit 45, which is Route 128 North-Gloucester. From 128, take exit 26 to Lowell Street East. Follow this road 2.6 miles through Peabody Center. Turn left on Essex street. Take a left on Washington Street. Take the next right onto Church Street. Continue onto Brown Street . At the end of Brown Street, take a right onto 1A. The hotel will be on your left. Parking is behind the hotel.

Of course its all pretty on the actual proof....

    Good luck!

It sounds like you're set on doing the directions insert, but as a potential alternative (if you're still considering any), we're putting directions as an insert in the church program.

I suppose this wouldn't work if your ceremony/reception are at the same site...

It depends on where the majority of your guests are coming from. I know my guests are either flying into Logan or coming from NY/NJ, so I have the directions to the church as "From Boston" and "From points South" (taking it from 95). Then I also have directions from the church to the reception. My hotels are all on the same street as the church pretty much.

Also, I just took them straight from google. We are going to drive them this weekend to make sure they make sense.

Thanks ladies.  Then I will likely put in directions since it sounds like the right thing to do :-)
