OT - Desperate for Surprise Party Help

Former knottie in need of some suggestions.  I'm planning a surprise 30th bday party for my husband.  It will be at our house, so huge yard, grill, all that good stuff.  But, I need some ideas to make it special, fun, different?  I want a real bday party feel and not just a typical weekend bbq.  Any suggestions would be really appreciated, because I'm at a loss.  I'm open to anything, so be as creative as you can. TIA!!!

    A friend of mine recently had a great 30th b-day surprise party.  

    At the party, his wife delievered a life-size cut-out of her husband at age 5 - it was adorable... and everyone wrote quotes on a board in the background. (He was wearing this incredible halloween costume that you couldn't help but remark on!)

    My sister threw a 30th b-day party for her husband and she actually made him a pinata!  It was like a huge spider (kind of weird).  Then we knocked it open just like at a kids birthday party.  It was a huge hit!
