Alterations

Today I had my first dress fitting!!!!! I was soooo excited to put the dress on!!!!! I got the dress on ebay for $799.00 and it looks awesome!!!
I asked around and got great recommendations for Anahit Alterations in Newton, MA and I defff recommend her as well!!! I was just curious to know...what is a normal price for alterations?? She has to make the hip area of the size 2 dress alittle bigger for me, and then she hemmed the train and created a bustle....so the total she gave me is $335.00.... is that alot?? I think it is, but I LOVED what she did and I want to go through with using her, its just money right now is touchy and im nervous!! haha. if anyone has any idea of a normal cost for alterations please help! thanks!!!

Wow, that is a beautiful dress!  Congrats!

Here's the ballpark my dress store gave me so far (dress isn't in yet, so it was an estimate):

    Cups:  $25
    Hem:  $125
Bustle:  $20 per point, estimated $120 for my dress

So $270 total.  I think your pricing is not crazy high, however, I've heard that Anahit is on the expensive side, but does amazing work.  So if you can afford it, I'd go for it. (A lot of people say she is worth the higher price)  This is a little much for me, so I plan to shop around to try to find someone cheaper.  I have heard that Fay Carraher in Billerica is more reasonably priced, so I hope to check her out.

I have also heard that Anahit is expensive...but then I wound up paying $300 for waist alterations and a bustle by a supposedly cheap seamstress. Your dress looks great, and for the amount of work, I don't think that price is super high.

Awesome thanks guys, Yeah I wasnt sure if she was expensive or not, she was the first person i went to because my friend recommended her. She is really nice and very straight forward which i thought was  just cute and funny! haha. If you're looking for someone i would recommend her...she wanted to change the entire back part of my dress so you can see the corset under the pulled area but i told her no...a.) that would cost a fortune and b.) the back of the dress is my fav. part. so she is going to leave it alone. Thanks everyone for writing back, it makes me feel better knowing its not wicked high....

Congrats on all of your engagements and good luck/have fun planning!!!
