Did Anybody Watch....

Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution last night??  OMG! These schools are giving children Pizza for breakfast and they don't see anything wrong with their eating habits. I am not perfect by any means and there are certainly days I eat things that I shouldn't but some of these statistics are so sad. Good show! Can't wait until it really starts!

No! I wanted to watch it. I'm really interested in childhood obesity and the problems along with it, it was my focus as an undergrad. I'm so mad I missed it!

FI and I watched it....it truly was hard to watch.  Did you see that one family where the mother deep fried donuts for her kids in the morning and had an entire freezer full of pizzas?? The lunch ladies at the Elementary School made my skin crawl!

I didn't see that, but that makes me sad.  I hate when I watch those types of shows and the children's parents are like, "we just don't know what to do"--but they still buy the junk food for the kids.
When I was little my mom just refused to buy it.  Once a year we were allowed to pick out one box of sugar cereal for the 3 of us--the rest of the year we had Cheerios, Rice Krispies, Chex, etc.  As a result I don't even like sugar cereal now.
My parents didn't buy soda, chips, pop tarts, etc.  Probably the least healthy thing we had to snack on was popcorn or french fries (but even those we cut the potatoes and fried ourselves).
It also makes me sad when I see parents telling their kids that fruits & vegetables don't taste good.  Of course they taste good, otherwise people wouldn't eat them for thousands of years.

Yay! Finally able to update my signature :)

I did and I was pretty upset at the elementary school. I teach at a local elementary school and we have a huge initiative for healthy eating. We serve fruit and veggies and salads as sides for the "hot lunch" along with healthy main meals all made with wheat bread etc. We have low-fat and non-fat milk for the kids and we don't allow parties with unhealthy snacks. For example, for Valentine's Day we had veggies and fruit for snack with water and the kids LOVED it. They don't need cupcakes to be happy!
