Affordable favors!

Sorry for two posts in an hour today.. We need cute favors for about 160 people and we need to keep the cost way down.. DIY is not a problem.. I am just lacking ideas.. I had planned on chocolates but the price is too high...

THANKS!

Cookies!  We are doing a cookie buffet and my Mom and I are baking them all.  We are baking around 1000 cookies, but if you did it favor style in a little bag, you could do around 2 cookies per person.

I found a company that does packaged chocolate truffles and they are pretty inexpensive!  This is what we'll probalby do:

I found them on theknot boards, but can't remember who used them.  She said they were good!

    What's your approximate budget?

I tried truffle trolley- they are yummy! But we are doing large bon bons with our cake and I am worried that it will be too much chocolate..

You could probably do $200 if you went homemade.  Or, just a suggestion, how much are the bon bons costing?  Could you do that as the favor?  I've also seen people do boxes to take home the cake.
  • edited December 2011
The bon bons are included. They are ice cream with chocolate covering. The hotel offers the CAKE and dessert included. If we cut that extra dessert they dont cut anything off our package...

What about a different type of candy? You could buy jellybeans or hard candies in bulk and attach a tag saying "love is sweet" or "sweet on each other" or something like that.

I did a quick google search and came up with tons of internet sellers of bulk candies, a lot of whom aren't very expensive.

Ohh ok!  I like opalsky's idea.  Don't feel too pressured to do a favor either.  I don't think most people will miss them.  You could spend it on the honeymoon!

Have you thought about just skipping favors and investing that extra $200 elsewhere?  We skipped them and no one missed them.  And as a guest, I usually just toss the cheap favors once I get home.  Just another opinion :-)

I'm a fan of edible favors or no favors at all. We had a a family friend who is a baker bake cookies, we put 2 in a gourmet bag with a ribbon and thank you tag that I created at home.

If it's a stressful idea, just forego the favors.

I agree...skip them! No one notices or cares!! I'm putting that money towards a flip-flop basket and a box of cigars in the mens room.

I like the candy idea and the cookie idea. I may just buckle and get the little boxes of chocolates at truffle trolley. I referred someone so they gave me 10% off.. so it'll be 1.80 a favor and they come in the box, with a ribbon and a tag. not the worst...

I agree that most favors end up in a junk drawer (unless they're candy, of course). We are skipping favors and doing donations to charities that are important to both of us.

We ordered truffles in bulk and put them into boxes ourselves.  I don't remember it being that expensive.  Pics and website info in my bio under Paper/DIY if you're interested.

Im doing a candle placecard holder thing for my placecards and its doubling as their favor. It can be used later in time as a picture holder. It was from favorfavor.com and was only like $1.65 a couple! Multi-tasking! We did change out the tea lights to colored tea lights ($2 for 8)but they come with white ones if thats what you prefer.
We are also doing 2 teired cakes for our centerpeices on cake plates we made
(12'' glass plate and glassbowl,  glass glue = $4 a table) We will eat the bottom teir as dessert. The top will be won in a contest and the winner will get a fancy cake server with their cake ($4) and the cake plate. All together we have 100 people and spent about $203 for 12 tables. Not bad! :)

I like the donation idea. I agree that a lot of favors end up being left behind or forgotton. Its nice to know that the money went to an organization that needed it. We did a donation for our favors. We are also having a candy bar so that people can pick and chose some sweets.

I believe you are getting married in Salem at the Hawthorne? You could try these local candy shops if you would like to have favors. Both of these stores have been in Salem FOREVER so it would be nice reminder to your guests about where the wedding was.
