Peabody-Essex Museum

Has anyone been to a wedding at the Peabody-Essex Museum? Have a date on hold and would love some feedback!

My aunt was married there 17 years ago. It was a VERY pretty wedding. I was 16 at the time and I remember the garden where she had her ceremony and her reception was in the China Room. It was very elegant and lovely. HTH!!

I haven't heard anyone on this board talking about them, but they get good reviews (although only a few) on wedding wire:

My cousin got married there about 6 years ago.  I remember it being really nice.  The cocktail hour was outside in the garden which was beautiful and the reception was inside the museum which was very different.  I remember the wedding being alot of fun.  If you have a REALLY rowdy group or kids invited it could get interesting since you are in the museum.  I remember going to the bathroom and security would follow you making sure you don't touch anything.  Overall good times and get location.

Hey! I am actually getting married there next year, and Natalia let me stop in to see it all set up for someone elses wedding... GORGEOUS! You might ask to do the same if you're curious.

We looked there for our wedding as well - but it was a little beyond our budget.  Natalia was fantastic about showing us around and the different options  they have.

She also offered to allow us to see when it was all set up.

Couple things to take note of - they require you to become members of the museum to have your wedding there and the liquor license for the location is held by the Hawthorne Hotel, so all alcohol has to be ordered through them.  We were not impressed with the selection or cost (based on the selection).

Not trying to be a downer - but just a couple things we learned as we were looking.

    Good luck.

Another thing to keep in mind, they have restrictions on certain decorations and types of food you can have because it IS a museum.

I have been to the museum but not for the wedding. It is so nice and has an elegant atmosphere even without a wedding done up inside. One thing to think about is that since it is a museum and you are becoming members, you can probably ask if they are a non profit and tax deductable as a write off. The refund you get from a write off might in the end off set any extra expense.
