Cake for less than $300 (120 people)

Is it possible??? I've been calling around for cake prices and we are on a tight budget.  I keep getting quoted for close to $500.... all we need is something simple, nothing fancy or flashy at all.  Who knew cakes were so costly!

If you have any suggestions for affordable cake bakers, I'd love to hear it!

Try Donna's Cakes in west roxbury.  I'm not sure what her cost is for cake but I got a great deal on cupcakes for 160 ppl.  The cake is delicious too.

I spent that much on the same nuber of people!

I had a 2 tier cake that fed about 25 people to cut and I had a sheet cake in the back.  I did not have any filling in the cake.

I used White's bakery in Brockton and it was declicious.

I'll second Donna's Cakes.  She's doing ours for 100 people for about $200.  The only problem is she doesn't have the kinds of choices for flavors that most places do- there is chocolate or vanilla with buttercream frosting.  But the cakes are delicious!  Very moist and the buttercream is perfect.

I also suggest a small cake for cutting and then sheet cakes in the back for the rest of the guests.  This will save you money

You might consider having a mutli-level or cascading cake stand like those shown below, and then getting plain white cakes from somewhere like BJ's, Sam's Club, or Costco for each of the layers.  With some organic flowers for decoration, you could end up with a delicious but simple cake at much less than a professional baker would charge.

Kondeitormeister in Braintree starts at $3/slice.  Their cake is delicious and when you go for a tasting they give you a half dozen pastries to take home for free.

Sweet Tooth in South Boston. Our cake is amazing. 3 layers chocolate with raspberry filling, white cake with fresh strawberries, and red velvet. We paid 200 to feed 75 people.

Patsy's Bakery in Somerville also has basic but good tasting wedding cakes.  I am not sure of their prices but I think they are pretty cheap.
