When do you alter your dress?

How far in advance do you start to alter your dress?
I only need a bustle and a hem across the bottom... but I'm not sure how long it takes.
What did you guys do?

My dress only came in 1.5 months before my wedding, so I did the alterations 1 month in advance.  Like you, the dress didn't need much, so it wasn't a problem.

If the dress is in, I'd probably do it a couple of months out just to be sure.  Those alterations won't change (won't be affected by weight loss/gain), so you don't need to wait too long.

I'm going for my first fitting about six weeks before the wedding, in August.  I don't think that you need to go more than six to eight weeks in advance.

I think that you should ask your bridal shop how long they need to make the alterations and go from there.  My wedding is June 5 and I had my first fitting March 20th.  It's probably a little earlier than normal...but I only need a hem and am not worried about losing weight (too much other stuff to worry about...haha), so I figured there was no sense in waiting!  Plus, I wanted to get to twirl around in my dress :-)

    Excellent, thank you!
I'm using a seamstress in the area (not one from the bridal shop) so I'll call her and see what she thinks. But I'm glad I don't have to worry about it just yet since my wedding is in August.
    Thanks!
lol Arez-- I want to twirl in my dress too!

My dress came in in December and I had my alterations done in April for my May wedding, about 7 weeks before.  I only needed minor alterations.

My dress came in a couple of weeks ago and I had my first fitting two weeks ago. I'm having some big alterations done, so I'm having three fitting sessions.
