photographer.....

well I think we're gonna go w/Berry Photos instead of Scott Metzger b/c Metzger studios is much more expensive...I tried negotiating w/Metzger Studios and even w/his offer, we would only be saving $260 give or take, which isn't much and it's still higher...I feel that both of these photographers do great work...Berry Photos offers unlimited photos, copyrights to all photos, unlimited hours, an album, and 1 free enhancement....which is more than Metzger studios whose base price is practically the full cost of Berry Photos alone....all of Metzger Studios options are ala carte.....does anyone have any last minute words before we make our final decision......

Berry was the first one we met with. I thought I wanted him and wasn't even planning on shopping around. I think his prices are great and his albums are beautiful.  However, after shopping around, I think his pictures are very "generic" so it really depends on the style you are looking for. We wanted some cooler editing and although we want formals, we don't want a ton of really posed shots. Good luck with your choice!

I'm using Keith for my wedding in two weeks and I'm so excited!!  He was the first vendor I booked,  and my e-pics were fantastic :)  I think you'll be very happy with your choice.

    Hey Sunflower,
Just a word of caution here!  We chose BerryPhotos too because of everything you got for the price and we were not thrilled with our pictures.  I wish I had spent more on a photographer and pinched elsewhere.  He takes good photos, but I certainly was not blown away.  But I think VTMB is correct with his shots being somewhat generic.  I love our album, but if got all married all over again I would have went with the photographer whose photography I liked more, but was more pricey.  Spend the money here!   Your photos are all you have left after all is said and done.

    Good luck!

Here's the way I look at it.  When all is said and done, all that you have of the day are your memories and your photos (and or video).  In 5, 10, 15 years do you really want to look back and say I really wish we spent that extra money and got the photographer we really wanted?

For me... photography was where I was really willing to splurge.  Photos last a life time and I really REALLY wanted to be 100% satisfied with them.

I do not personal know a ton about Berry Photos, I have absolutely nothing negative to say about them.  I know there have been plenty of knotties very satisfied with them.

Here is what I do know.... I have been married 9.5 months and I (pretty much daily) look at all my photos.  My album is so amazing. Honestly, I think the color in the album is actually better then it was the day of.   I used Scott and I have 0 regrets. Honestly, I think he is UNDERPRICED, and I say that with 100% confidence.

Hi - my two cents.... Metzger also takes unlimited photos and provides copyrights to photos.  I think he offers varying hours because some people don't want/need a photographer all day so why not charge them less.  Scott offers packages with the album but its not mandatory to include it - this is good if your fiance believes in electronic media - ex.  a huge tv size electronic picture frame vs hard copy album - this is my fiance's view but Metzger will honor the quoted album price once I convince Fi that the album is needed ;)

From what I know of Berry Photos (I only have positive thoughts), the price is very comparable to Scott.  I don't think $300 will matter to you in 10 years but the pictures will so go with your gut.  Additionally, I notice that Keith has a few photographers who work with him now - will you get Keith on the day of... with Scott, you get Scott that day.

As I told you before on another post, I don't think you can go wrong with either.  It is all about who you clicked with and whose photos you like the best.

    Good luck!

    Hey there--

I got married about 2.5 weeks ago and I cannot stop raving about my photographer: Connie Miller of Studio Atticus. Her prices are a little steeper but pretty comparable to the better photojournalistic styles of photography. I agree with others, the only thing you have to remember your wedding 10,20,40+ years from now are your photos so don't skimp on it. I love our photos and Connie was just mixed into the crowd. She was able to truly capture the moments without really even being noticed. Check out her website: www.studioatticus.com. You can check out our photos from her blog too: www.studioatticus.com/thuyandkip.

    Good luck.

SORRY FOR THE ALL CAPS-----WE USED DAN NYSTEDT FOR OUR WEDDING AND SHANNON SORENSEN FOR OUR POST-WEDDING BRUNCH AND ROCK THE FROCK.  ABSOLUTELY LOVED THEM BOTH AND WOULD SUGGEST EITHER ONE OF THEM.  WE PREFERRED THEIR STYLES TO KEITH OR SCOTT.  I AGREE W/PP--THE PHOTOS ARE SO IMPORTANT SINCE THAT'S WJAT YOU'LL HAVE FOREVER.  :)

I agree with pp.  If you're going to splurge, photography is the place to do it.  We used Scott and I would use him again in a heartbeat.  His work is amazing and like pp said, I think that for the level of quality and product that you get his prices are amazing.  I still watch our slideshow, look through our album, etc 2 years after our wedding, and my SIL loved our pics so much she used Scott for her wedding last November.  As expected, her pics were gorgeous!  He has an amazing eye and from what I've seen of Keith Berry's photos I'm not that overly impressed.  I also think Scott is just an all around nice guy who is so much fun to work with, and I guarantee you won't be disappointed with your pics.  I know 4 people who independently hired Scott as their photographer and all of them have nothing but raves for him.  I have also never seen a bad review for him on this board.  While I've never seen a bad review per se for Keith Berry, I've seen some "disappointments."  Personally I'd splurge and go with Scott Metzger because I think he's worth the little bit extra.  For me the personal touch is worth the little extra money.  HTH!

Hi eeyore, I think I may go w/Scott now b/c my gut has always been telling me that he is the better photographer and I have written him some e-mails letting him know we're still interested.  I asked him to let me know what type of package(s) he could create for us b/c he told me in another e-mail that he feels he can do the photography we want and that he can be flexible in creating a pkg that fits our budget better, so I'm waiting to hear back.....I wish he was more responsive w/his e-mails....I don't want to miss out on this opportunity to work w/him.

Sunflower, I feel like you've been driving yourself crazy with the photographer selection process for a while now.  If Scott is the photographer whose work you like best and you can either:

    a. get him to cobble together a package that fits your budget, or
    b. cut back elsewhere on elements less important (centerpieces come to mind immediately),

then you should go with him.  You post messages often asking others what they think of your photographer options/decision.  This would be helpful, except that every time you begin to form an opinion on your own, there are a dozen posts that cause you to question it (if for no other reason than the fact that most of us loved and are partial to our own photographers).

My advice to you is to stop asking others what they think you should do.  Allow yourself to make your own decision based on the opinion of you and your fiance alone.  Realistically, every one of the photographers you've mentioned recently does work that brides here have been happy with.  Ultimately, you have to tune us out and decide for yourelf.

    Good luck!

Go with your gut and book the photographer that you think you'll get the best shots from. Everything is transitory of that day- the cake, the flowers, the food, the music- BUT the photos! The photos are tangible memories of that day and should reflect your taste and style.

Consider it an investment and cut corners elsewhere. I tend to think you get what you pay for- if you want to pay less, expect lesser quality (of course, there are some exceptions!) When it comes down to it 300 dollars is a drop in the bucket compared to the overall cost of the wedding!

Out of curiousity I checked out both websites and thought Metzger had a more sophisticated style- Berry's were too posed and too traditional- and I like you're working with him specifically. I would definitely prefer Metzger!!

just to throw a late name in the hat, we worked with Kory Johnson for our engagement shots and wedding. He's new to the area but we had a great time with him and prices were low. I think he's worth checking out... www.koryjohnsonphotography.com
