Speaking of gay people...

The Walt Disney Company made an "It Gets Better" video for The Trevor Project. It's a pretty big deal because it's a huge company taking a stand when a lot of other companies are pulling ads from their shows that they deem too controversial. They've already done many pro-gay things, like gay family day and cruises. Groups are always trying to boycott or protest these actions. Disney just basically said, "FU and, btw, being gay IS normal." I'd love to post a link to the video, but my cellphone isn't letting me. Someone want to help a knottie out, please? The video is amazing. I had tears running down my face. This certainly is progress.

[QUOTE]I love the idea behind the it get's better videos. I just think it is sad that the best thing we can tell these kids is that it will get better when they are older. That is a pretty crappy response for kids suffering now and it makes me sad that it is the best we have to offer.

Well its pretty much the standard saying when ever someone is depressed, upset, grieving or what ever. As bad as things are now, they do get better. It doesn't have to mean the far future, it can mean in the morning.

  • Wow, that was a tear-jerker. I'm glad Disney is joining in with this project.

<div>I take the message differently. As someone whose sister has manic depression/bipolar disorder, I can tell you that "it gets better" is something we constantly remind her of - because it is helpful to say that no matter how bad things are now, they will get better and there is something to live for. It's a message about empowerment and hope - which in the midst of depression are pretty powerful things in themselves. It's just about pushing through to the next day and not giving up on your happiness.</div>
  • This is so so awesome. I was definitely in tears. I lost a very good (gay) friend 5 years ago to suicide for this very reason and I so wish he would've stuck around for this message. I can only hope for every person who sees these videos to take the messages to heart.
