How would you word this??

I mentioned a week ago that the pro cycling challenge
was coming through golden over our wedding. The
city is having a block party on the main street and creek
which is located right next to our hotel we were having
our ceremony and reception at. The event will be one of
the biggest events that golden has had. Unfortunately
we sent our STD's out three weeks ago before the route
was announced. Our date was Friday 08/24/12, now we
need to switch the date. Saturday is already taken but
the main event is that day. We can't do Sunday because
I would start school back up the next day. So we are
thinking Thursday 08/23/12. We chose this weekend
because I am in school for Radiology and that is over
a week break that I have. So we think we need to send
something out that says Opps and let them know the
new date? What do you ladies think?  How would
you word this in another STD?

</div><div>Depends on the level of formality, I think.  If it's a casual event/STD I'd answer differently than for a Black Tie affair, you know?

    </div>
  • I would probably just remake the STD with the correct one, and then include a note that says "Due to the X event our date had to be moved to Thursday, 08/23/12.  Sorry for any inconvenience, and we hope to see you there!" or something like that.

  • It is more "formal/casual" but not black tie.
  • I'm with kcscejal.

I'm a little confused, though, on why you have to change the date.  Are you concerned about traffic? or people wanted to attend the race? Or did your venue boot you to accomodate this race?
  • If the date is being changed, SEND OUT NEW SAVE THE DATES! Whatever the reason.

You could say something like "Save the NEW date" (New in a different font or color) and then say "Due to X, we've changed our wedding date." and list the date.
  • Also, I wouldn't say "oops" because that to me looks like you just printed the wrong date on your first batch, and I would assume you were an idiot (which I'm sure you're not, so don't give anyone that impression :)  )
  • We are switching the date because there will be a block party on the main road which is the road the venue is on. Due to the thousands of people they are expecting and parking issues and not being able to have the ceremony outside due to the bands and block party that will be going on. They recommended us renting a tent with sides for the ceremony which would cost $2500-$3500 and we specifically picked this venue for the outside ceremony and the creek right next to it. It was a hard decision but we do not want to be stressed on our wedding day. The main streets will be blocked off which will make it almost impossible for guest to arrive with out having to walk a couple of blocks.
  • Bummer.  Will the date change to a Thursday make it more difficult for your guests to attend?  Would it be any better/easier to look into a venue change or is the date change your only option?

  • We are having a smaller wedding, we know that some people may not be able to make it but the majority of our guests will come whenever it is. Our guest list was a little higher then we wanted in the first place. We can't do it another weekend because this is my school break otherwise we would have to wait till summer 2013. we checked into other venues but due to our budget and the new 2012 prices it is not an option. The venue we picked was so nice and within our budget, that is why we picked a Friday there. But unfortunately it won't work out that evening, The biggest thing is we just found out last week and we have had this place booked since march.

[QUOTE]First of all, does the date change work for the VIPs? If they are traveling, a Thursday might be tricky.

</div><div>Yes a Thursday works. My sister had hers on a Wednesday and they only had a couple of people who could not come. The Thursday is not an issue.
