I've been married less than a year, but already

my ring doesn't fit :(  I'm so bloated, I don't know if its the heat or what, but I'm afraid to take off my ring because I would have a hard time getting it back on.  I drink a ton of water, but could cut back on the salt, but I wonder if anyone has any other suggestions?

Re: I've been married less than a year, but already

  • I've tried to move my hands more, but it seems pretty constant. My rings are soldered, but its been so bad lately, I've considered buying a band to wear for now. I've read some foods that help with bloating, but I didn't know if anyone had tried any. I was thinking some sort of diuretics, but I'm weary of those.  I'm kinda secretly hoping I'm KU...

  • Just leave it on.
The generation before us put the rings on during the wedding ceremony and they've never taken them off.
I used to take mine on and off - now just leave them on...
  • I would take a  pg test first, and then if you're not, I'd talk to your doctor about taking a diuretic.

Last week I was OOT working at a camp, and my ankles and wrists were swollen, I'm assuming from traveling and heat, so I took a diuretic and it helped a lot.
  • I used to take my ring off when I slept because my fingers would swell, I gave up on even taking if off a couple days ago.

I'm still a few days too early to take a pg test. I'm charting and all that jazz, so I don't waste too many dollar store pg tests.

  • I had that issue in HS when I ran track.  Cut back on salt and you should see some improvement in a couple of days.  I had to give up anything that was pre-salted (tortilla chips, etc.) for a couple of months each year, but it was worth it to be able to use my hands normally.

I might still schedule an appointment with your doctor to be sure, but minimizing salt in the interim should help.

*sigh* That was my fear. I'm a salt-a-holic. I don't care for sweets, but giving up salt would about kill me! I'll have to try it, or at least cut back. It might help, but I dont think its the only cause, because I have always loved salty foods.

Yeah, I'm kinda afraid my finger will start turning blue. I have to use spit or soap to get it off now.

  • My fingers swell daily in the summer.  I got married two months ago, and the ring is already getting tight.  I can't get it resized, because in the winter it nearly slips off.

  • Windex works great to get them off when they're stuck.  I know that doesn't help the bloating problem, but it'll get them off when you need to.

  • I know you don't want to go without it, but I'd probably stop wearing it for now until you get the swelling under control. You would really hate yourself if you had to get it cut off.
  • I have the same problem. Am thinking about having it made a little bit bigger, and then getting some ring guards for the winter...

Could you get them resized and then get the half-balls put inside? That would accomodate the fluctuations in your fingers and keep it from slipping off.
