XP: Need your opinion on my invitation wording

Hi ladies! I wanted to get some opinions on our invitation wording. We are hosting the wedding, and although it's not super formal, it's not super laid-back either. Ceremony is in a garden outdoors followed by an indoor reception. Do you think our wording is too quirky for a wedding? I wanted it to be different and show our personalities a bit. Thanks!

it begins at twilight

but be prepared to stay the night!

together with their families,

 Ladymd81

and

fI

request the pleasure of your company

as they stand together

with trembling hands and open hearts

to exchange their vows of marriage

on saturday, the seventh of july

at five o’clock in the afternoon

venue name

venue address

reception (and happily ever after) to follow

  • "But be prepared to stay the night"

Is it a slumber party?  Are you providing accomdations?

No, it is meant to imply that the partying will be into the night, reception is until 1AM. I am still not sure about the 1st 2 lines, just because they rhyme and I don't want it to sound to childish.

Agreed. If I'm heading to an evening wedding/reception, I generally expect that it will last until midnight or 1 AM...

"Stay the night", to me, indicates overnight - ie: ending in the morning (5/6/7 AM) and/or that accomodations will be provided.
  • Some of your guests might be frightened off by the apparent expectation that they will stay all night.  I'm a night owl by preference, but even I would be a bit intimidated by a party that began at 5 and lasted 'til dawn.

  • I'd skip the entire opening clause unless it actually is a sleepover (that would be weird though) because it seems more like the sort of thing you'd put on a flyer of a surprise party or something and not for a wedding invitation.

I'd also skip the trembling hands and open hearts part because I don't really like wordy invites and it just seems a little cheesy.
  • Thanks for the input ladies. I've decided to scrap the first 2 lines since I agree it can be confusing for guests.
