Paris, anyone? (NWR-it's from me so of course it's NWR)

Ladies,

Long story short-I bought two plane tickets to Paris for my BF's 40th b-day.  Very excited.  I started looking at hotels for fun and have discovered that hotels in Paris in September are booking up FAST.  Who would have thought that 9 months wasn't enough time to book a hotel room for 5 nights.  A couple that were recommended are not available on our dates and the dates are not flexible.  So now I am trying to fastrack my reservation.

Have any of you been to Paris and can make a recommendation on a hotel?  Don't worry about the cost or location, I can look that up on my own.  I am just hoping that someone says, "Oh, Smokey, you MUST stay here!"  Or tell me, "Stay away from X because the hotel sucked for these reasons."

I have a few recommendations from my 2006 Paris travel book (we almost went then but ended up in Tulum, Mexico instead) but nothing beats a real live person saying I think this is a great place.  Thanks in advance for the help.

NOTE to my FB friends-no posting on my wall about this.  It is a total surpise and Mark will see it on the wall.  You can message me though if you can help.

  • Geez, a trip to Paris for a birthday?

Want to adopt a 25 year old? I want to go.

H and I were in Paris in August of 08, and stayed here: http://www.hotelebermars.com/

It's really basic accommodation, but clean and the room was a decent size. It had good reviews on tripadvisor at the time which was why we booked it. We didn't spend much time in there anyway as there is so very much to see in Paris. It's near the tower and very close to the metro (although pretty much everything is close to the Metro in Paris!). Rather inexpensive from memory, and had nice (albeit simple) breakfasts (ahhh, french breads!) included in the cost. If you want something special I wouldn't stay there, but it suited us at the time as we were travelling on a budget and only spent a few days there.

and oh, I'm glad you decided to go with the travel rather than the giant party. Munich should be awesome (we've been there, but just missed Oktoberfest). You guys will have a great time!
  • Sun,
We were in Munich in 2008.  Our friends go out in even years and we joined them last time.  It was so much fun.  I cannot wait.  I am glad that I opted for the trip too!

    thanks!

  • I wish I could help you, but I tend to do the camping thing when Fiance and I go to France. However, if you don't mind being about 2 hours out of Paris I'd highly recommend one of the Center Parcs France.  You can look it up at http://www.centerparcs.com.

I use them here in the Netherlands and in Germany quite often.  Clean, comfy, great facilities and only an hour or two away from big attractions.  It looks like Le Lac d'Ailette is about 2 hours outside of France and Les Bois_francs is about an hour and 40 minutes away.
  • I stayed at Hotel Spledid.  Very simple, nice size rooms, bathtun, window where I could see Eiffel Tower if I stuck my head out.  Not too expensive.  Right by a metro line and easy to navigate.

So nothing special...but comfortable and well located.  We were very happy with it for the price.
