Receiving Line???

When exactly does the receiving line occur? Do my FI and I stand at the church doors after the ceremony for the receiving line? Also, how do you deal with family members and friends that you've never met, or haven't frequently talked with? Thanks!!!

Basically, there are usually so many people pushing through the receiving line, you'll be saying the same thing over and over, nodding and smiling etc.
  • ours was right after the ceremony. and for those you dont know, you smile and thank them for coming
  • Right after the ceremony.  You give a lot of hugs and hellos.  The most important thing is to thank your guests for coming.
  • Right after the ceremony, usually at the church doors if it's in a church.  I've also seen the bride and groom kind of "dismiss" by aisle. We will be doing ours at the doors to the church and will be having both sets of parents stand with us.  We are leaving it optional to members of the wedding party because I don't think my best friend from college needs to make small talk to every single person at the wedding.  For people we don't know, I am making sure my mom shows me pictures of people within a week or two of the wedding for the few of her friends that I can not put a name with a face.  Then I will smile, say thank you so much for being with us today it is great to see/meet you, and send them on their way.
