I can't decide how I feel about this.

My boss has a 9 year old daughter (she'll be 10 at the end of this month) who came to her last night and said "mommy, I'm fat."

She's 90 lbs and about 4'6" so by her BMI (which I know some people think is BS) she's "overweight." However, when I look at her, she's not fat, maybe a little chunky, but at 9 years old, I feel like I was a bit chunky as well. Especially during the summer when I had unlimited kitchen time etc. Either way, it was the little girl who came to her mom and thinks she's fat. That, in and of itself, makes me sad.

So last night, my boss signed her 9 year old daughter up for My Fitness Pal - and fibbed about her age, because you have to be 18 to use that website. They're counting the calories and sugar that this little girl is eating.

I can't decide how I feel about this.

#1) This poor 9 year old is feeling pressure b/c she's fat. Her dad made a comment about the fact that her new school clothes are a size 1 in juniors.

#2) This little girl is going to start counting calories and working out?

#3) This girls mom has signed her up for a weight loss website and they're hoping she loses 15 lbs.

While I think it's a good idea that she gain knowledge of healthy eating habits and learns to have an active lifestyle, I'm not a fan of the counting calories and working out mentality - and when I say working out, I mean like, doing the elliptical and treadmill and stuff in the interest of losing weight/maintaining weight loss.

Something about this is bothering me.
