So as to not further derail a thread that wasn't about this topic in the first place, I'm going to post my rant separately. The white wedding dress does not represent virginity period-full-stop-end-of-story. I did, in fact, wear white and was, in fact, a virgin. But these things are unrelated.
Quick history lesson, then. Queen Victoria popularized the all-white wedding gown when she wore hers. A white dress was (is) a highly impractical garment because it gets dirty too easily to be worn many times. It is, thus, a symbol of wealth and affluence to buy a dress that will only ever be worn once. Before this became standard practice, girls would wear a very nice dress, sure, but one that they would then wear many more times to church/balls/etc. and in a color other than white. Blue was a popular choice and frequently represented innocence.
Okay, I'm done with this little rant and I feel better. Off to heat up leftover homemade pizza for my and H's dinner.
