Hi Etiquette board!  I have lurked The Knot for months now.  I have nothing to add and I have no questions.  I just wanted to pop-in and give my appreciation for all I've learned from this board.  I know etiquette knotties can be met with a lot of hostility when they give proper etiquette advice; so I wanted to let you all know I really appreciate your insight.  I feel I have avoided a ton of side-eyeing because I have lurked this board.

    Specifically the biggest lesson was that dry weddings are ok.  Cash bars are not.
    But overall, I most appreciate that this board reinforces the fact that guests need to be treated kindly and as "guests," not spectators who were lucky enough to get invited to the most fabulous day ever for the most fabulous princess in the world.

    This might be my new favorite TK quote. And I'm glad that you understand that your, general your, wedding is not the biggest thing in everyone's lives. They're excited but not clamoring for an invitation.

    Ps I had a dry wedding and it was great.

    The whole "it's my day, I'll do whatever I want" attitude is so immature and ugly.  Lurking this board has helped me avoid coming across that way (unintentionally, of course).  For example, for the ceremony, the seat-for-every-butt rule--I had no idea.  In my circle, it's so common for people to have stand-up ceremonies in the wilderness/beach/lake/whatever.  After reading this board, I'm like "yea, that IS rude. No one wants to stand in one place for 30 minutes..."

    Another lurker here to agree. I've posted more questions recently now that it's getting closer, but I also learned a LOT in the first few months just reading everyone else's posts. Before I came here I thought the Honeyfund idea was fabulous. I've had a few friends do it and, since my FI and I love to travel, we thought it was the best. gift. ever. I never really looked at it as anything different than a regular registry. Then again I also didn't realize just simply stating that you have everything you need and you prefer cash was rude. So overall I was basically at square one with wedding etiquette.
