Letting guests know that the wedding is outside.

I am currently 33 days away from the wedding, and it just occured to me, that I did not put anywhere on the invitation that the wedding would be held outside. I am worried that some of my guests will show up in late April, not knowing that they will be sitting outdoors, and will be thinking that they need to be all dressy. How do I let people know that I don't care what they wear, that they should dress comfortably?  Email? Phone call? Word of mouth?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

  • Do you have a wedding website?

Aha!!! That's a fantastic idea! Aweome, thanks!
  • As a PP stated just put it on your website. Also, you could include what the average temperature is around the date. That way your guest could bring a light jacket if needed.

  • We are having an outdoor ceremony and indoor reception.  I put information to this effect on our website.  I think I said something like, "Weather permitting, the ceremony will be held outdoors.  Please check the forecast a few days out.  In case of inclement weather, everything will be moved indoors."

  • How many guests are invited? I don't know if this is a good idea or not, but if you don't have too many people, maybe after you get some "yes" RSVP's back you can give them a courtsey call... "Hi Aunt Jane! I got your RSVP in the mail today and I'm so glad you're coming! I just wanted to give you a heads up that the ceremony will be outside..."
  • What is your venue listed on the invitation?  "Smither's Apple Orchard" sounds outside to me.  "St. Pete's Church" sounds inside.

Use your web-site and word of mouth.

  • Ditto PPs about word of mouth and wedding website.  If it's going to be on grass or sand, make sure you include that, since a lot of women will forgo heels if that's the case.
