Well, we made it to Friday

Re: Well, we made it to Friday

• My FILs bought OJ, bagels, champagne, chicken salad and croissants, and hummus for us to munch on while we were getting ready for FSIL's wedding; I think the plan is the same for mine.  And I'm drooling at the thought of a bagel, lol.  By then, it'll have been months since I had one.

Just crash it.  LOL, habs will not mind.

Happy Friday to all.  Hopefully today will be boring at work.  Just got a phone call, and when I answered "Health Center" because it was an internal call, the lady on the other end asked for the bakery.  I said, excuse me?, and she says, isn't this Lowe's Foods? It is nice to get a funny wrong number now and then.
Missy, what's wrong?!
Posted by emilyinchile
It is just one thing after another with this move. I know I sound like a huge complainer, but seriously, can't anything ever just go right for once?

Yesterday H's cell phones died for good. So we have to get new cell phones this weekend. That really isn't the issue.

Fast forward to this morning: I went to get the rental truck yesterday. Fine. H comes out of our friends house this morning and starts to go to work. Well our friend lives in a cul-de-sac and we parked the rental truck across the street from here house. The neighbors kid (early 20's) comes home sometime last night (he said 1am) and parks right up against the truck bumper. WTF? Perhaps he was drunk, we don't know.

So H called the cops b/c he didn't want to move the truck without doing damage to either the rental truck or the kids pick-up. Of course the kid tells the cop that we backed into his truck even though the rental truck has been there since 8:30am when we got done with a load last night. I don't know if he is just trying to get insurance money or is doing it out of hatred. He started going off on H with all these obscenities and everything.

So now we have a claim for our car insurance. There were no citations issues b/c it wasn't a moving/traffic violation. So it will be up to our insurance company to decide if they will or if he wants them to pay out. The cop put 'minimal damages' on the police report b/c there was contact.

I know this could happen anywhere, but I just want next weekend to be here asap. And now H and I feel bad since this is our friends house and they may try to retaliate. And all of our stuff is going to be in her garage. And her husband is gone and she is here with 3 kids. I will feel like the biggest as$ if something happens to her house, dogs or kids.
• LD - you haven't got it yet?  :: scratches head ::  It must be lost.

Missy - OMG.  That's horrible!  What a little shiit!  I can't believe he can get away with that.
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
• Ugh Missy - that's ridiculous.  So did any damage actuall occur?  The lack of respect some people have for others property is beyond ridiculous.  I'm sorry you're having such a crappy few weeks.  I'm sure nothing will happen to your friend once you're gone - that kid knows what it really is, he's just being an a$$ b/c he was faced with cops.  Some people think if they beat their chest the loudest they won't be the one wrong.

When are you officially moving back?

Stacks - I am moving back next weekend. And I cannot tell you how much I cannot wait for next Saturday to get here. As soon as I see my Dad I will know it will be time to hit the road and leave it all behind me.

The good thing I guess is that H will be here until the end of May so if the little punk tries to pull anything maybe seeing a man in the house will help. I dunno.

Edit: Hopefully my new job will bring me some peace of mind and clarity. And hopefully it will keep me from going insane.
• Dang, Missy, that is BS! Can't you talk to any of the neighbors to confirm how long the truck was there? And that it was there first? I would be furious right now if I were you.

• matilda - I am beyond furious, but trying not to let it get me down even though it is easier said than done. I asked our friend about talking to the neighbors, but you know how neighborhood gossip is. One of the neighbors is pretty anti-social and they don't really know them well. And the other people were already gone for work. I am not sure how much good it would do anyway b/c there are still conflicting stories and since there were no citations/fault, the cop said he couldn't take sides. H did take pictures really quickly though. And of course the kid moved the truck BEFORE the cops got here. (I think I left that part out)
• Well, then that is complete BS. Maybe your insurance can fight it out for you since there's no proof who is at fault.

• That's crazy. Was the kid not home originally but got home when the cops came? I would have knocked on the neighbor's door first and asked him to move his car. But like Stacks, I'm confused as to whether there was damage or you were just blocked in.
• That's really weird that the cops believed that kid, even though it was your H that called them.  Hello, why would he call the cops if HE was the one that hit the other kid?  That just doesn't make sense.

Emily, the kid was not home last night when H parked the truck there at about 8:30. The kid said he came home about 1am. Apparently (H got me out of bed) he saw H come out to go to work and that is when he came out of the house. I am not sure if H said anything to him or he just moved his truck into the driveway before the cops arrived.

There is not visible damage to the rental truck, but of course, I am not going to go into their driveway to look at his truck. His truck was on top of the rental trucks tailgate/thing you step down onto before step on the ground after getting out of the truck. I don't know if that makes sense, but you would have to see it.
• Yeah, I'm not clear on what the damage was, or why the cops needed to be called exactly?

But the cops believed the kid?  I'm kind of shocked by that.

I know, right? I understand the cop can't take sides, but we had the pics and all and you could clearly see the the rental truck had not moved from where it was parked in the pics (with some cracks in the street, etc that showed up in the pics). I guess it was b/c he didn't issue any sort of citation since it wasn't a moving violation. Like I said, I dunno. I just want things to be over and done with. But I would like to know his motive unless he was just being an as$ from being hungover still.

• Good point adamar. That story is completely ridiculous. Some people just have no respect for other's property.
• Missy, I get the timeline for last night. I had just assumed in your first post that your H called the cops because no one was home this morning at the neighbors' house to move their truck. I'm confused as to why/when the cops were called if the kid was home to do the moving. I'm also confused as to why your insurance is involved if there was no damage. And you described it well, I understand what you mean about his truck being on top of the ledge of the rental.

While the kids was rambling his obscenities, he said there was damage to his truck. At that point H decided to call the cops in case he tried to get the money out of us. I don't want to deal with that. So hopefully the insurance company will.
• Did you guys see any damage to his truck?

We couldn't tell for sure. But if there is, it would be on the bottom side of the front bumper. The bumper was on top of the back tailgate of the rental truck, so it very well could have scraped it up. H just didn't want to move the truck and either do more damage or make what the kid did by parking his pick-up like that even worse.
• Okay. But I'm still confused as to why you guys would just let him make a claim on your insurance and not fight it. I would totally fight that.

We will fight it, but hopefully it gets taken care of in the next week. Our insurance company said an claims guy is going to call me today or Monday. We don't even know if he is going to pursue action, or if he was just all talk but we wanted to be prepared in case so they know our side of the story. I just didn't want him to call our insurance company and try to start some sh!t without them knowing anything about the ordeal.
• I agree with Matilda.

And seriously, being bent out of shape over damage to a bumper - whoever's fault it is?  Kind of dumb.  I feel like there's no paint left on my rear bumper, thanks to a year and a half of parallel parking in downtown Baltimore.
image
• We don't care about the rental truck. There is no damage to it, so that part is okay. I just hate that he is not only not telling the truth, but seems like he might just be looking to get some insurance money out of us.
• Next thing you know he'll say he was IN the car and has a back problem.  That's so obnoxious.  I'm sure he's all talk and won't file a claim.
• I think I have the whole picture now. So you only called your insurance as a preemptive strike and not because he already filed a claim. That makes sense. Hopefully he won't call to make a claim, but at least if he does your insurance can tell him to go eat dirt.
