Officiant Invited to the RD?

Hi everyone - Long story short we are going to have a different officiant (thought it would be a family member). Does the officiant get invited to the dinner part of the rehearsal? TIA!

Re: Officiant Invited to the RD?

  • And do they also get an invitation to the wedding? And should their SO be invited?

  • I know the officiant is invited to the reception, but it is just a verbal invite, right?  Like, we don't have to actually send him an invite do we?

  • I think we do have to send a formal invite which means he is getting ugly stamps.

  • The officiant should be invited to both RD and reception as a guest, which means formal invitation.
  • I think this very much depends on your situation. If he is the pastor of your church I agree with the above. However, ours is just an ordained minister and we are not getting married at his church (he actually does not have one) and we are paying a fee directly to him. Therefore, we are treating him like any other vendor we are paying to be there. He is also not participating in the actual rehearsal (he will for a fee). We are not inviting him  to the reception either.

So I think you need to look at your relationship with the minister and the church and go from there.
  • I agree with Mica--formal invitation, etc.  But in my experience, they usually decline, so it's mostly just a nice gesture.  Of course you should still act as if they will attend, but don't be surprised when they don't.

We invited both our paid officiants to both the RD and reception and they declined.
