Stupid friendly's

So I haven't been to a Friendly's in about fifteen years, and I went today, and gosh the food was terrible, but the thing that really disappointed me is that they don't seem to have that Reese's Pieces clown sundae on the menu anymore. I thought that thing was iconic. Oh well, another piece of my childhood down the drain.

Anybody else have any clown food related or other rants? How's everybody doing tonight?

I miss Friendly's and haven't noticed a change in their food.  We don't have them in Arkansas, but I try to have some when I'm home.

They still have the Reese's Pieces sundae!  The 5 scoop, fishbowl one?  It's still there, although I think their ice cream menu is more confusing now.

I'm exhausted.  We did a MASSIVE clean up/reorganization of our apartment and worked all day, then met up with friends who have a truck and they helped us get our new table since the old one had a problem with it.  Then we went out to dinner and came back to our place and played some Guitar Hero.  Now I'm ready for bed at 10pm on a Saturday night.

  • That bites.  I went to Ihop with some friends the other day....tried to order the chocolate chip face pancake dealie (cause what the hell, and we're apparently we're all 5 years old).  No go, even though we were willing to pay full adult price or whatever, unless we were kids, they wouldn't do it.  Completely juvenile?  Yes.  But still a little disappointing also
  • I have never seen a Friendly's, ever.

I was productive today, wedding-wise.  I scheduled my first fitting, ordered our guestbook, got FI to send the GMs the tux info, and picked out our thank you notes. And we had lunch with friends and saw Avatar. Tomorrow we're finishing up our registries.  Fun times.

  • I mean like the sundae that is immortalized in this Facebook group:
    http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2204722637

It just wasn't on the menu today. When I was a kid, I would always get a hot dog, and that sundae.

Good to hear that some of you guys were so productive! I can't say that I did anything productive today.

  • The conehead?

    Hmm, that's so weird!

  • I have something clown related. This is what I saw when I looked to my right while sitting in my work parking lot the other morning. Freaky. And random.

Oh, and I <3 Friendly's. I get their turkey melt sandwiches and the Reeses PB cup sundae. Yum! I do miss those clown ice creams though. I think they used to come with kids' meals, no?

EDIT - And I'm having an okay day, but DH isn't. We went to visit his grandma at the hospital today and she is not doing well. She's 89 and her body is failing her. It's so sad and he loves her so much.

  • I've never seen a friendlys either.
YaPuppy- even though you offered to pay full price? wtf?
I miss my local restuarants back home and some places in SC :(
In Sierra Vista here they have this creepy clown restuarant. The whole place has hundreds of clown dolls and what not
  • Gretchen, that is quite scary and random.

My mom promises that we'll make clown head sundaes after I come back from visiting FI in Milwaukee, so I guess there's that. It's weird that they would take something off their menu that pretty much epitomizes their brand, though. There was some kind of snowman thing instead, but it just wasn't the same.

  • You know what Friendly's reminds me of, and will always remind me of. Santa Claus. My mom took me there when I was 12 and told me that Santa was fake. Nice, huh?

  • I'd love to stay and chat, but these errors are just too much for me right now.  I'm so worn out for going non stop today.  And not having a nap.  :(

I'll probably catch you ladies tomorrow!

  • I worked at a Friendly's for 5 years. I can still list off all the side orders at lightning speed from when they decided listing the available sides on the menu was dumb. I can't believe they'd get rid of the conehead, kids love to eat food with faces. Did they still have the Monster Mash? (same kind of thing, mint ice cream with PB cup ears and a face)

  • I don't think there was any Monster Mash either. The only thing I saw with a face was that weird snowman thing. Maybe this was a weird Friendly's....

  • Oh, they do still have both! You probably looked at the main dessert menu - the kids' desserts have always been listed on the kids' menu because they're included with kids' meals.

I'm sorry you missed out on your Conehead, but at least you know he is there waiting for you for next time.

  • Yeah I think I just realized that looking at their menu...

They must not have brought us the kids' menu because we were five adults trying to squeeze at a table for four. Well, still, I am offended. Maybe it will be another fifteen years before I go back.

  • I don't blame you. I haven't been there since I stopped working there. Besides, I will tell you the secret to making your own conehead at home.

    Ready?

3 Reese's Pieces in the bottom of the dish before you put the ice cream in. It's supposed to be like "WHOA LOOK EXTRA CANDY" and blow kids' minds or some shiit.

Now you NEVER have to go back.

  • Yay!

The melted, squishy, yellow #5-leaky candies at the bottom of the sundae were always the best part.

  • What is that thing in the car, gg?
  • I'm pretty sure it was an inflatable clown, or a very large clown doll.

  • I'm late too, but know that it is a Northeast chain.  I lived in Colorado for a while and missed it terribly!

My rant - why did they stop doing the chocolate lasagna at Olive Garden?  My DH loved it and tells me that EVERY time we go there.
