Invitations in the mail at 10 weeks?

I know invitations are supposed to go out at 8 weeks, but I was wondering if I could send them a little early, at 10 weeks? I didn't send out save the dates. Another event is happening in the town I'm getting married in that same weekend as the wedding so hotel rooms are scarce - I only managed to get 35 rooms blocked off for 50 OOT couples. Two hotels in the town are already booked solid. I was thinking if the invitations were sent out just a smidge earlier, that's an extra week and a half to secure a room/figure out another plan if my block is full.

My RSVP date is a little less than a month before the wedding, when my hotel blocks are released.

Please don't hesitate to tell me I'm being a bit overzealous. I know I'm just excited and that might be clouding my judgement.

[QUOTE]10 weeks is fine. I got impatient and mailed mine then. :)

Same here! I just got tired of seeing them all stamped and ready to go in their box just waiting to be mailed!

  • I think it's fine. I'm scrambling to get mine out ASAP, but I just took a second to count and realized that although this weekend marks 2 months to go, it's actually more like 10 weeks right now if you count actual weeks.

  • When all was said and done, I think our invites went out at about 10 weeks, too. Our wedding was a holiday weekend and even though we did STDs, we wanted to make sure that our guests had plenty of notice on the hotel as well. As long as your RSVP date is reasonable, I think 10 weeks ahead is okay.

If you already have a wedding website, I might make a note about whatever is happening that weekend and urging guests who need a hotel to book as soon as they finalize their plans. You might put a similar note in your OOT invitations. It doesn't have to be long just something like "We've found out XYZ Event is happening on DATES. If you would like to book a hotel, please conisder booking as soon as you make your travel plans as XYZ Event attendees will also be booking rooms in the area." And then put your hotel block info and whatever other hotel info you want to include, your website address, etc.

  • We sent ours at ten weeks. At twelve weeks people (who received save the dates) were freaking out that they hadn't received their invitations and were asking H's parents if they were uninvited. lunatics.
  • Definitely seems fine to mail them out early, especially since you didn't send STDs and you want to make sure everyone has a room. Rules are meant to be broken :-)

Yeah, one of our GMs said, "I got the postcard, but are we getting anything else?!" at about 3 months out. Yes. In fact, the post card said "formal invitation to follow."

Later in life, he sent out his wedding invites at 12 weeks, with an RSVP deadline 6 weeks before the wedding.

  • I think it's fine to send at 10 weeks especially in your case with another large event going on.

  • Phew, thanks everyone! I feel so much better. And msmerymac, I totally laughed when I read your post - about 5 of FI's single guy friends have all been worried for the past 2 months that they aren't invited because they haven't gotten their invites yet, haha.

I am glad to know I am not alone here. We had the same thing happen to us as well. Even though we sent STD's w/ invitation to follow, people were still asking us "Is the wedding still going on?" (I believe it was a full moon the whole time I planned my wedding). We decided just to send them at the 10 week mark, then the questions stopped.

I love my brother's best friend more than I like my brother, but this kid started pestering me February for an invite. I'm getting married in September.

I wanted to send my invites out at 8 weeks. My mom got them printed at 13 weeks and, in her excitement, sent them out at 12. We had very few missing RSVPs, and actually had the nice surprise of getting most of them back very early!

You're being overzealous. But, at the end of the day, you'll likely drive yourself (and possibly, others) crazy if you don't send them at 10 weeks out. Just send them at 10 weeks out and be done with it.
