Let's help a sister out

Which spelling do you prefer for Emmalyn(n)?

  • I like the symmetry of the two "m"s and two "n"s.

  • I like two n's

I like it with the double n because emma is a name and lynn is a name, but lyn is not. Atleast its not in my opinion, it probably is in reality.
  • I think one 'n' looks more like it's own name and less like two names just shoved together, if that makes sense.

Emmalyn was on our list of names for our daughter. BF really wanted it but I didn't like how it sounded with her middle name (which was after his Grandma who passed about a month before she was born so we didn't want to change that).

  • I like 1 N, but I can't put my finger on why. I just like the way it looks. I think I usually prefer fewer letters.

  • Hmm actually I've already changed my mind, 2 n's does look better, otherwise I want to say it eMALyn instead of EMmaLynn
  • I like one 'N' also. Not sure why, but it's how I spell my nickname, Brookelyn.

I wonder if Emmalyn(n) will stick amongst us knotties

  • I like one "n," but I also think that if the parents can't decide, the opinion of the one who had a c-section trumps.
  • I second the idea that she should just put Emmalyn(n) on the certificate lol

Well, we do seem to like extra parentheses. (P&)E, anyone? ;)

Is that it? She likes it one way and he likes the other? Or can they both not decide which they like better. I agree that if it comes down to she vs. he, she should win out for the 34 weeks of pregnancy and c-section.

I think that because it already has a double-M, that 2 N's make it look too...crowded?

I'm with you GG, though on the flip side there is a concern about symmetry, yes?

  • I like Emalynn because it phonetically takes the emphasis off of the MA in Emma and puts it on the EM.  ..But mom gets to pick if they can't decide between them :)

Yeah, I get that too. :) I just think it looks too long with 2 N's. One less letter to have to bubble in on Scantrons!

  • Whoa. GG, I was seriously thinking the same thing about Scantrons. Haha!

    This, exactly.

I think the fact that the second version looks like two normal names put together makes it look better.  The other version looks like parents who are trying too hard to be trendy and different.  The second actually looks like...you know.. a name.

  • Have we seen pictures of baby Emmalyn/n as yet?

Yep! This is what I was thinking.

And in the South, we're pretty fond of two name first names, like Sara Beth and Mary Jane :)

  • Depends on how you are going to pronounce it.

DH and I are both teachers, and here's how the two names have been pronounced on our roll sheets over the years:

Emmalynn is pronounced like two separate names:  Emma Lynn

Emmalyn is pronounced like one name, rhyming with Marilyn and Carolyn.
