Gift for bridesmaid or for her AND him?

I've been in two weddings...one in which I received a gift just for me and one in which I received a gift that my SO and I can both use. Whats the etiquette for gift giving??
  Im in the process of picking out something for my MOH. She's like a sister to me and I always shop like its her birthday anyway.. she was recently engaged a few months ago...Do I get them something they can both use or, if budget allows, get them a joint gift and then something for her on the side?

I would just get something for her. If it winds up being something they can both use, so be it, but I would just focus on her.

The gift is a thank you for her being in your wedding and helping you out.  Was he in the wedding and helping you out too?  I've never heard of getting a BM a gift that is for her and her SO.  I would just get her something.

I don't see a problem with either option.

If find being in a wedding effects the SOs of the WP also.  I would not go out of my way to get a gift for both of them.  If I found a great gift that both could use, I woudn't not get it because it should only be for her.

Not sure if that makes sense.

I would focus on getting her a gift she likes, but if it's something he would use too, no biggie. For example, if she likes wine and you got her some bottles of her favorite wine, a nice bottle opener, a neat-looking bottle stopper, etc. and her SO also happens to drink and enjoy wine, then it kind of ends up a gift for both of them, but you had her in mind when buying it, so I think it's fine. If that makes any sense.
