Fire at Church!

I just got a call last from a friend who's daughter is getting married on Sunday.  (BTW, it's a three hour drive to the wedding.)  Apparently the church caught on fire as well as smoke damage to the social hall where the reception will be held.

The family is really torn up.  The daughter does not want to wait any longer to get married and the only thing she feels she can do is get married at home - however, there is no way they can have a reception somewhere else on such a short notice.  Having the reception at home is out due to space (and if it was possible there is no way to rent items on such a short notice).

Would it be ok for her to have the wedding and have a reception the following weekend?  Any other ideas would be appreciated.

BTW, I think the reason for not waiting any longer is something to do with deployment.

Wow that is so unfortunate

If it's just one weekend, however, why can't she have both the following weekend?

ETA: I am confused about the deployment thing. WIll the groom not be at the reception the following weekend?

I'd hold off and have both the following weekend.

ETA:  I didn't see the part about the deployment.  If he is going to be deployed, then yes, have them on two separate weekends.

I think that this actually is a special circumstance and she needs to do what she needs to do.

How terrible. I'm sure all of their guests will be fine with a two weekend wedding if that's what needs to happen.

Pretty sure no one would side-eye this situation.  The church caught on FIRE and the groom's being deployed!  How unlucky!

True, I don't think anyone would think this to be rude.

I think because of the situation everyone would and should understand.  This is certainly an extenuating circumstance that no one could have predicted.  In other cases I would say no but due to this tragedy possible lack of vendors on such short notice, I would say this would be more than acceptable.

I mean, she can do whatever she needs to do, I just I don't understand how one week makes a difference in a) deployment and b)notice to another venue to have the reception.

This way people won't have to travel out twice.
