I work 2:30-1am, Monday-Thursday (so, 10-hour days, but only 4 days a week), and when I left work today, one of my cats, Butters, was playing with his toys, and chewing on them.
By the time FI got home from work at 5, he said Butters threw up 5-6 times and he peed a little on the kitchen rug.
I started to panic, thinking he had eaten something from one of his toys, and he DOES throw up often (he's a scarf 'n barfer), but never 5-6 times in a row, and the peeing on the rug thing concerned me because that never ever happens with any of our three cats.
I told FI to take him to the vet, and they took X-Rays because his belly "felt a little weird," but he passed all other tests with flying colors and nothing showed up on the X-Ray except one spot they couldn't see well, probably due to dehydration.
He's staying there overnight, getting fluids, and tomorrow they will try to feed him, redo X-Rays, and take bloodwork.
I called at 10pm to check on him, and he hadn't thrown up any more and he was resting comfortably.
I know this all sounds dramatic for a cat, but we are VERY much animal people and we love our three babies. We've been through a lot in the three years we've had this little guy (he has the calici virus, so he's often sneezey and has little allergy-like problems), and he has been the most rewarding pet EVER.
I know I can't REALLY compare this worry to the worry of a parent, but it's all I know at this point in my life, and I'm super worried and nervous. So. Think good thoughts?

Thursday Update:
I called the vet, and he's eating great, hasn't thrown up since they had him, and the X-Ray today looks fine, but he has a huge pocket of gas in his colon, and they want to keep him another night to see if that will clear up to rule out a blockage. So, everything sounds good--it's just precautionary again, and hopefully just one more night.
Today's my birthday, and I was really hoping for Butter Bean to come home today...but it sounds good. Fingers are crossed!
