My fiancé and I have been taking group dance lessons through the local community college for a couple months now. Tonight, we’re going to our dance instructor’s house to take a private lesson where we’ll practice dancing to “our song” (we’re paying her for this lesson). Do we tip her on top of her hourly fee?
I feel like I’ve read that if you are paying the person providing the service directly, you don’t have to tip (this would fall under that, since we are writing the check to her), but if someone works for a larger company, you DO tip. Is that right? I don’t want to not tip if we’re supposed to, but it seems weird to tip since she’s the one that set her rate. Thoughts?
