Wall Decals?

Anyone tried them? I know I've asked this question before. We're thinking about getting this (http://www.etsy.com/listing/40231653/vinyl-wall-art-decals----large-leafy-bra) for our bedroom, but the walls are textured, and the post says that it may not work on textured walls. I'm thinking I could buy a large piece of plywood, cover it with fabric, and then stick the decal to that. Think it would work? Would that look stupid?

This is our backup idea

Re: Wall Decals?

  • Maybe not even plywood, but just a frame with canvas covering it.  Plywood could get heavy.

  • Sorry to post and run. Headed to FBIL's to do laundry. I'll be able to answer in a few
  • I've put on those wall decals (at friend's houses) that just have a word or something, and that alone was a PITA.

The walls were slightly textured, and it was very time consuming to get it fully adhered to each little bump.

I can't imagine doing that whole thing. I think about half way through you'd say "SCREW THIS!" and toss it.

Oh, I need to learn to read all the way...

I would also pass on plywood, because it is very heavy. If you chose to do that, I suggest masonite. It's much lighter. The only problem is that I don't know if stapling fabric to it would work too well. This may sound REALLY ghetto, but if you pulled the fabric tight enough around it, you could pull off hot gluing it onto the back side.

Alternately, if you could find some inexpensive wallpaper, you could put wallpaper as the background. I don't think it'd look silly if the project was done right. It'd just look like a piece of art.

    /novel.
  • I've used the vinyl decals on a smooth wall and it was a piece of cake but don't see how it could work on a textured wall:(
  • True about the plywood. I'm not very crafty, so that's the only thing I could think that would be big enough
  • A friend of mine got a gorgeous decal of a tree branch with leaves and birds on their wall that I thought was painted on for the longest time.  They said it came with a squeegee thing to apply it and was really easy to put up.  I think she said they used dali.com to buy the decal, I would suggest looking there.  Their's looks awesome

  • Honestly I like the pier 1 thing better, and it would certainly be easier.

PS- Did anyone else notice that the website for the decal shortens the product name to "large leafy bra?"
