speaking of facebook...

how do they know where i live??? i never give them that kind of info. i never give ANY website that info. only the city i live in.you know how in the top right corner of the 'home' page they always suggest friends... usually the suggested friend is someone that is on a bunch of my friends' lists, or added me to their family tree, or some other very similar situation. but the other day, it suggested my LANDLORD. i live in a basement apartment of a house, in a huge major city, we have zero friends in common, and it has never randomly suggested someone that all my friends dont have on their list before.how the feck did they know?????

Re: speaking of facebook...

  • I think it definitely has to be the email thing.  Of all the people in LA FB recommended the lady I adopted my cats from.  It was creepy.
  • We built a function for a client in which we restrict the number of SMS messages and emails that can be sent based on the number of times you hit it from a particular IP.  I have a report right now that shows me all of the IP addresses.  Now, if you are using an ISP like AOL or Earthlink, the IP will be the same for all the people, but if you are using Verizon or something like then, then we can see your IP.Now, do you belong to a "network" like Los Angeles?  It may be suggesting friends based on that common link.  Or there may be some other degree of separation that you don't know about.  A friend of a friend of a friend.  I sometimes get suggestions that are friends three times removed.  Who knows...maybe he is a long lost uncle.  Ask for a discount!

I don't get married often, but when I do, I do it in Las Vegas.

  • The Friend Suggester does seem smarter these days.  It suggested someone I know- but I don't know how it knew I knew him, he wasn't friends with any of my friends.  Maybe it could see that people I knew had friend requested him and he hadn't accepted yet?  I don't know.
