STDs that aren't wedding related

One of my coworkers is getting married in October so we have become pretty close since we were both planning a wedding.  She came in my office this morning and told me something that was a little too TMI, but it got me curious.  She apparently has contracted herpes from her FI, but he swears he doesn't have it.  She says she hasn't cheated, and I really believe her.  I know she wouldn't.  Is it possible for her to have gotten it from him and they don't even know it?  Isn't that something you would know if you had it?

From what I remember of HS Health Class, STDs are more easily passed to a woman and the symptoms are more likely to show up and be more severe for a woman than a man.  It's possible he has herpes and doesn't know it, but I believe if left untreated it can cause infertility.  I'd suggest he get tested.

Has he been tested? It's not uncommon for people to be in denial about symptoms because they're scared of the diagnosis.

Well, they could test FI, but it wouldn't help much since like 20% of the population has it or something. I'd worry about his blanket denial, sounds a little bit suspect to me. On a bright note, the herp isn't as bad as it used to be. From what I've heard the drugs work pretty well, and the first outbreak is by far the worst. Sometimes ppl only get one outbreak.

It is possible that mouth herpes can become the more icky genital herpes and passed via oral. If either of them gets mouth cold sores that could be the culprit right there.

Yeah, I wouldn't trust word of mouth, I'd go get him checked. If I'm not mistaken, it can remain dormant for a period of time and then show symptoms when the conditions are right.   Confession: after I read this post, I was like...what does she want to send an STD out for then? Uff.

A person can definitely get Herpes without symptoms occuring for several years... kinda like a dormant volcano.
