children/young adult lit poll

What are some of your favorite childrens books or young adult books? Whether you remember them yourself, read them to your own kids, teach them, read them for fun now, etc. I'm in the mood to reminisce about why I love reading so much now :)I finished rereading Walk Two Moons today and was crying by the end, again. That is a great book for anyone at any age IMO. Some other faves:Sing a Song of PopcornBerenstein Bears (all of them)Where the Wild Things Are (movie apparently?)The Giving TreeSomething Big Has Been HereAlexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad DayThe Outsiders

• LOVED Berenstein Bears. My mom and I also read the Boxcar Children Series together.  Anything Dr Suess was always fun too.
• All three John Green books. Looking for Alaska, An Abundance of Katherines, and Paper Towns. He's fantastic. His tone for teens is perfect. He's in my bio. His videos are also fantastic.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
• I love children's books so, so much:The Giver (still one of my favorite books ever)Ramona Quimby (we are getting a dog soon and if it's a girl, her name will be Ramona Quimby)Anything Dr. SeussSuperfudgeStarring Sally J. Freedman, As Herself (really, anything Judy Blume.  Do you guys remember reading Are you there, God? It's Me, Margaret. CRAZY.)Little WomenLittle House on the PrairieOh, I could go on...

• I also had this book that was lots of different stories about different kinds of witches.  It was my favorite book ever, I read each story at least 50 times, but I cannot for the life of my remember what it was called.  One of the stories involved a witch that lived by the sea and made everything out of candy, and she rescued a teddy bear that got dropped off of a boat and she made him all fat because he ate all of her candy.  That was my favorite. Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about?

• I am bad with titles, but I loved Mercer Mayer and Shel Silverstein. And there are many more. There was one book that was about a street of houses, and how the main character of the book made their house stand-out from all the rest. I think they put a hammock in the front yard and painted the house. Then the rest of the neighbors followed suit. I would love to remember the name of that book, but I have never been able to find it.Is it happy hour yet?

• For those of you that struggle to remember books you read, check out this livejournal community:http://tinyurl.com/mzpbsfThere's almost always someone who knows whatever book is being asked about. I haven't posted there, but it's interesting to read.

• O.M.G. Brie, thank you so much! I am so happy that I finally know the name of that book.

• Oddly enough, I know that because my sorority used it during recruitment during a speech.  The whole, "My house is me and I am it.  My house is where I like to be, and it looks like all my dreams" thing was always a tearjerker.

• Kids: The Little Prince The Giving Tree Where the Sidewalk Ends Young adult: Hatchet Where the Red Fern Grows Bridge to Teribithia The Call of the Wild White Fang I mostly grew up in the country, pretty far away from "civilization." It wasn't until I went away to boarding school that I really had the chance to make many friends. Sounds cheesy, but these books were like my best friends... Trying to think of more.
• Where the Red Fern Growsmy *favorite*. I've read some more recent ones that came out after I got older--one called "walk two moons" and another called "the underneath"...both made me cry. When I was a kid I pretty much loved anything with animals in it.
• ac, walk two moons made me cry too, that's what inspired this post :) I finished it today.

I love them so much more now I'm an adult
• The Frances books-about a little girl badger A Wrinkle in Time and its sequelsWise Child-not strictly a kids book, but I read it when I was a kid.The Hobbit-also not a kid's book, but I loved it when I was about 8.Dealing with Dragons-about a princess who gets kidnapped by dragons, ends up liking them, and refuses to be rescued.

• I loved the Berenstein Bears books when I was younger, along with Curious George and the Little Miss books. Around 2nd 3rd grade I fell in love with Baby Sitter's Little Sister, and then a few years later, with Baby Sitter's Club. I loved VC Andrews in Jr. H/HS, but that's about all. My university career in History made me very fond of non-fiction books, and I still find myself reading non-fiction. My latest: Stolen Innocence. I want to read more books about the FLDS cults.

• I LOVED The Giver. Did anyone read the Anne of Green Gables books? Those are my all-time favorites. I also read a lot of the little house books, and Babysitters Club. I am actually planning to reread all the little house books this winter...there's something so cozy about reading about their crazy winters when it's snowy outside.

• If you're from Boston, I love "86 Years".  It's a story of the 2004 Boston Red Sox, similarly structured to "Twas the Night Before Christmas".  My 2 year old LOVES this book and can almost recite the entire thing from memory.  He also loves Richard Scarry's Best Word Book Ever (also one of my faves).  We read Goodnight Moon a lot and Guess How Much I Love You.  Also into Once Upon a Potty right now b/c he is trying to potty train. When I was little, I loved Pippa Mouse, The Big Move, Kittens for Kim, Katy and the Big Snow, and Richard Scarry's Best Word Book Ever.
