Centerpiece wine buckets? Poll of sorts

I've decided I'm going to do floral-free centerpieces, and use some sort of ice bucket to hold ice and wine, and surround the bottom of it with grapes, apples, pears and oranges. I have three ideas for what to use for an ice bucket. Which do you think would be more awesome? Or is the entire idea stupid? Traditional copper or tin ice bucket ($10+ per table)Basket woven bucket thing, lined with sewn-in plastic ($2-5 per table)Or a large pumpkin cut and hollowed out? ($3 per table)

I like the idea - I think its unique and fun.Where is your wedding?  That might help to decide which one is best.  But so far I think I like the basket idea the best, because afterward you could remove the plastic lining (or not) and use them for things around the house (magazine holders, dog toy if you have one holder, wastebasket in the bathroom, etc).

I like the basket. The metal bucket is nice but I think the basket surrounded by fruit gives it a lovely harvest feel. The pumpkin feels just slightly off to me, though I admit a mad love for pumpkins in all forms.

Yeah, I was kind of leaning towards the pumpkin too. I'm buying probably 50 or so to paint "W" on and scatter around the garden, so what's 20 more to carve and hollow out?

I like either the pumpkin or the plain tin.  You can always dress up a tin (like you mentioned, fruit), but the pumpkin kinda stands on its own.  I think anything you do will be gorgeous though, I love the idea of wine as a centerpiece!

The pumpkin is by far my favorite. We were going to do this for some of my centerpieces as well.Just look for big pumpkins with flat bottoms so they don't fall over You could also use a galvanized bucket from a feed/farm supply store for fairly cheap. If you're sick of doing projects, that is

I love the idea!!  And def the pumpkin in your best pick here.  The straw basket looks like a straw basket.  It would take a lot of jazzing up.  And the pail is too plain I think.

Honestly, I'm not really crazy about the idea.  I think of wine chillers as functioning pieces, not decor.  Certianly not the focus of the table. What kind of atmosphere is your event?  Casual? Picnicy?, semi-formal?  I think it might look cute for a very casual event or an outdoors park vibe.  I don't think it will work in a more formal setting though, sorry.    I mean, obviously it will work, but I don't think it will really have the stylish, just-as-good-as-centerpieces look.  But that's just my opinion.  It means nothing to anyone but me.  :)Out of all the options,  I think the silver ones are best.

I like the tin bucket or the pumpkin, not crazy about the wicker although I could see it going into a more shabby chic style if that's what you're going for.

The wedding is in my FMIL's backyard/garden, and we are having picnic baskets for everyone to fill with wax-paper-wrapped sandwiches, wraps and other picnic foods. These centerpieces will help because people won't have to fill their baskets with the fruit, as it will be on the table. That's why I kind of like the basket lined with plastic, but holy woven rattan, we already have 120 picnic baskets at this thing! Is that too much basket if the centerpiece is also woven? Perhaps...

Yeah, I think that might be a little too much wicker.  Plus, I would be crazy paranoid all night that the plastic would spring a leak and drench the table.

Becs, you can do no wrong in my book. =)That said, I do like the metal bucket best, but the pumpkin can work if it's already part of your look/feel

Since it is a backyard garden, laid back reception, I take back my "it won't look right" thoughts.  With everything more casual, it would fit in fine.

Love the pumpkin. I would stay away from the woven basket because it reminds me of a bathroom trashcan and that would really gross me out.

Eek! I didn't think about that plastic leaking. Now I'm more for pumpkins or metal buckets. Vogt, you are brilliant with the farm supply stores. There are tons of them around here, and I bet I can find something cheap that will work, and the cold metal will chill the fruit. PIB of the yard. I hope I can pull off a simple yet casually elegant party in their yard. I feel so much pressure to make it perfect. I gotta stop doing that to myself. I need to just serve pre-ceremony shots so everyone will be too snockered to notice if my handmade textile table toppers are crooked or my centerpieces are leaking ice water.

The pumkpkin for sure.  I think the bucket would be too cold for your look and the basket would add to much wicker. Best idea ever.  One questoin though:  will you be able to clean it out well enough so the bottles don't get slimy or will you put a plastic liner it it?  FWIW, I've never carved a pumpkin don't know the process of it.

I think I can line the pumpkin with clear plastic to keep the ice and wine from getting gooey, or stick a cheap plastic clear bowl in the bottom. No one wants icky slimey wine! Thanks for all your suggestions and input. I owe all my good ideas for this wedding to you girls!
