Thank-you/Wedding Announcements

Hey Ladies,Its been awhile but I have a question. I had to handwrite over 200 thank yous and I just got them all finished. I am so happy but now I am getting crap about it taking me so long to get them done. :o( Our wedding was July 18th and now I feel terrible. I was getting ready to mail them this weekend and our wedding announcements. I even finally got our wedding announcement done for the paper and all that happy stuff. What is the general time frame that this stuff has to be done?

Re: Thank-you/Wedding Announcements

  • I think that technically you have a year to send out thank yous, because that's how long people have to send you gifts.  I am certainly planning on sending mine out sooner than that, but I don't think you're doing horribly bad with sending out your thank yous now.  It's taken me almost a month just to get my shower thank yous out, so maybe I'm not one to ask.  :)

  • General time frame for TYs is about 2 months. You're right about there. Personally, I would have sent them out as I finished them, but either way, better late than never.
Holy Crap. We survived the first year!

  • peachkins- that is incorrect.  Guests have up to a year to send a gift.  B&Gs need to send TYs as promptly as possible as a gift is received.

  • We had to write 80 and we got ours out in 4 weeks. Some people say two weeks is the limit, but we didn't get back from the HM until the 2 week mark. Emily Post says you have 3 months. If it makes you feel any better, DH has a TY card that he sent, but to the wrong address. He has yet to send it to the right one. We got married July 12.
  • Guess I just suck right now. I just got busy with after married life with my promotion at work, going back to work, and our 2 week vacation. Man I feel like crap...
  • And who's giving you crap about not having the cards done?
  • Eh, don't beat yourself up.  They're done now so they go in the post tomorrow, right?  At least you're doing them.  I'm still waiting on a TY from December. ;-)

  • Yeah, don't worry- I would never wait a year to send out a thank you.  I hadn't really done any research before I replied, I just remembered hearing about the year thing.  I would try to send thank yous out for all the gifts I got at the wedding ASAP, and then send thank yous as I receive others.
  • Mostly family members. My dad and grandfather mostly. I got these really nifty wedding announcements made up and they took a bit to come in plus no one put their addresses/names in the guest book and we had to sort through cards because a lot of family members just signed "Me" and gave us cash and we weren't sure who all was there to even begin to figure out who the card was from. It was truly utter chaos. I made sure I got wedding announcements to send to everyone and I think I got everyone that needed a thank you down too.
  • You're late but just mail them soon and you're all set.
  • Why would anyone just write "me"?  That is ridiculous.
  • Honestly.  That's pretty bad if you can't even take the time to write your name on the card.
  • You have 6-8 weeks post wedding to get thank yous out so you are towards the extreems. FYI you shoudl have had DH do half
