Reception F/U

Hi ladies - I posted on Tuesday about not being able to get a hold of my potential reception venue.  I live in a fairly small city, with not much to choose from.  We had fallen in love with the perfect place, and were just waiting on a contract from their coordinator.  That was a month ago, and short of actually showing up, we had tried everything to get ahold of her and failed. Thanks so much for your advice.  We decided Tuesday night to go in person Wednesday and ask to talk to a supervisor.  One of you suggested that the coordinator was not employed there anymore. Bingo.  I got a call from the sales director yesterday, who was wonderful.  She invited us to see a reception set-up this weekend, etc.  I was very excited, until she emailed me the contract and the food and beverage minimum was double our reception budget.  We specifically asked during our tour if there was a minimum, and were told no.  I emailed this to the director (just our conversation, since of course, I don't have it in wriiting.) She basically said, sorry, of course there's a minimum. So, I am back to square one in the reception hunt.  Thanks for the advice though.  It hurts a little, as we have looked at quite a few places, and loved this one.  I know we will find somewhere though. Thanks again!

  • Sorry to hear the crappy coordinator gave you wrong info and got your hopes up.  I'd be totally irritated.  But, at least she's not there anymore! Good luck finding a new place you love.

  • Would you consider choosing a less popular date? They might waive the minimum for your business...
  • Oh no! Is it just a minimum for Saturday? Our venue has a Saturday minimum, but not for any other day, and we're getting married on a Sunday. Would you be willing to change your date to get this venue?

  • It's also okay to tell them what your budget is and see if some places can work with it. Have stationary apps instead of passed apps at cocktail hour, have 2 entrees instead of 3, beer and wine only instead of full bar. I told my venue what I wanted to spend and they were able to waive the room rental and the valet parking fees if I set a guaranteed minimum of 75 guests. Which is on the high end of my guest spectrum, but I'm okay with that, since it's well within budget. Good luck!

  • When I was researching venues I was finding that in our area if we chose a Sunday wedding I was looking at a minimum of 50% savings.  Couldn't pass that up!  And the venue we chose told us that the kids meals would be 50% of the adults so we saving again.
  • Thanks ladies.  Apparently, this is their standard FB minimum.  Our wedding is already on a Friday, so I don't know. She was kind of rude in her response email.  Like it is my fault your staff screwed up. LOL.Life goes on though.  We are in contact with 2 other venues that we like decently.  We got the ceremony site of our dreams, so I guess that is the important part! Thanks for all your help!
