Christmas parties

It's coming to that time of year.  Between work, family and friends, do any of you host your own Christmas party? We did one last year for FI's family and it was AWESOME.  We had this huge feast we prepared and it was fantastic! Then Christmas day we opened our gifts in bed, spent the morning together and wandered over to the FILs in the afternoon for Christmas dinner.

Re: Christmas parties

  • That sounds great!  We don't have room to have Christmas parties yet, but I can't wait until we do.  Our families are 5 hours apart and splitting holidays is stressful.  I look forward to the day we can host and not having to stress (and drive!) so much.

  • Aw I love christmas. Call me cheesy. I woke up to about 2 inches of snow this morning and it made me happy because it reminded me of christmas. Yes, we host a christmas party every year. Nothing huge. Just close friends and family. I love it

  • I would love to, but the weather is generally bad in December, and since they don't clear our roads and we live like an hour + from civilization, I don't think people would come. I would though. Christmas party, and a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere, and spiked apple cider being served while opening gifts? Hello, perfect evening.

  • I wish we could have a Christmas party, but with our family dynamics, it just wouldn't work. There are too many different groups involved. We could do an immediate family one, but we'd still have to see the immediate fam at the extended fam's party, so there's no point. When we have kids, I'm making everyone come to us.
  • Vogt, that does sound perfect!I'm a sucker for sentimental Christmas stuff.  I will admit that party last year was a little overwhelming.  There were a ton of people!

  • Me too. After I decorated the house, H (then FI) said it looked like holiday cheer threw up. Just what I was going for. He's already dreading this year :)We did have Christmas Eve dinner at our house. It was my dad, brother's family, grandma, and IL's. About 15 people. It was a nice evening, and I was so proud to cook my first Christmas dinner.I made cornish game hens. Fabulous Christmas food :)

  • Hee hee.  My ex hated Christmas stuff so I was always kinda sedate.  Last year was FI and my first year in the new house and he didn't even own Christmas lights before.I came home and it looked like the Canadian Tire Christmas department threw up on our house.  It was FANTASTIC.I think I'm gonna put the trees up this weekend!

  • Presents in bed, that's a great idea! We will probably have some friends over on the 20something-th of the month with some appys. We already have 4 business parties we will be going to unless his places of work book the same night as mine.

  • I've thrown a Christmas party before and had fun, but I'm always convinced no one will come so I find it really stressful.Last year we hosted Christmas and had FI's family over, and it was awesome.  I'm a Christmas freak, so I loved it.
  • We always go to at least one of our work parties. Mine is pretty small and intimate while S's is huge and a Big Deal.We host family Samhain dinner at our house as close to Halloween as possible. I started this tradition about 6 years ago and, surprisingly, my Catholic parents love it. I would LOVE to host a Christmas party at our house but we are always so busy in December. A nice little appetizer and cocktail party sounds awesome, though. Hmmmm...now you all have me thinking about another party!

  • My parents used to do one for my Dad's family (all his cousins) the Saturday before Christmas. Some of his cousins switch off now.FI and I do one for our friends. It's like a cocktail/heavy apps party. Our families live too far away, and we just visit them on Christmas.
