Oh crap

I'm pretty sure I threw away a finger printing form with my birth date, DL#, and SSN. Stupid, stupid me. Other than getting a credit check, does anyone know what I can do to check myself. I've checked online but it's all info on if you know something happened.

  • Just watch your credit like a hawk. You can put a fraud alert on your credit even if you don't KNOW something has happenned yet. Its a 6-month alert, and you can renew it as many times as you want. It makes the credit agencies call you if anyone tries to check your credit. Its free.

  • Yeah, go through one of the three major credit bureaus and put a flag on your account. That way, lenders are supposed to double check/ask for additional documentation when someone applies for credit in your name. It will make it much harder for someone to open up a credit card under your name or something. I did that when someone hacked into my bank account online and tried to transfer out $500. They were dumb about it, and thankfully my bank caught it and stopped it. But I was flipping out that they had a bunch of info.

  • And you only need to go through 1 credit bureau and the info will be sent to the other 2. The flag is just for 3 months and it's free. After that, if you have documentation of fraud, you can pay like $20 and have your credit frozen for a year so no one can open anything, period. But only if you know you've been compromised.
