Buying a treadmill

Have any of you done this?  Where do I start?  I want to have it be decent quality, but under $1000.

    You can find really nice ones at the second-hand exercise equipment store.  Tons of people buy them, barely use them, and then consign them.  Way cheaper than new and barely used.
