any NOLA ladies around here?

i've posted on NOLA board several times but haven't really gotten any good responses so I thought I'd check here. I'm going on a cruise for our honeymoon and booked the Clarion on Canal Street.. I was trying to see from someone who knew the area what kind of neighborhood it was in and if there's anything I should know.. tia.

  • I'm from Baton Rouge, but have spent extensive time in NOLA.  Anything you booked on Canal should be fine.  If I'm remember right, the Clarion is pretty nice.  Close to the French Quarter too.  And also not far from where the cruise ships dock.

  • awesome, thank you. that's the best response i've had yet :)
  • Ok, I just looked up the address.  It was the one I was thinking about.  If you walk 6 blocks toward the river, you'll come to Decatur, which is the front side of the Quarter.  You're definitely in a safe/touristy part of town.  But definitely try to stay on your side of Canal.  The other side of Canal is where things get a little sketch.

  • I used to live there.  That's a good location.  You should find plenty to do around there if you are staying long enough to do anything.  French Quarter is close.  Lots of good restaurants.  You are a few blocks from the St. Charles streetcar.  That's a cheap & fun way to see the residential area.
  • you ladies are great. this is really good information. i knew i had heard to stay on a certain side of canal but i didn't know which side so thats really good to know.
  • You are definitely close to the sketchy end of Canal Street.  Head towards to the river, not the freeway (I-10) when/if you guys go exploring.  It would be quite a hike to the cruise ship terminal from your hotel (esp. with luggage).  I would take a cab or park in the cruise ship parking lot.  Just be careful... Crime was and still is prevalent.  Even while I was living there, I had friends who got pickpocketted, etc.  That being said, you are a short walk to some of the best restaurants.  Royal Street is a gorgeous walk and don't forget the beignets at Cafe du Monde on Jackson Square!
  • Thank you! I will definetly not head towards the Interstate!
