Paper cranes

A guest couple gave us a big box of little gifts for the wedding, and instead of foam peanuts or tissue paper as filler, they used a bunch of origami paper cranes. They had these all over their wedding that we went to last year, and apparently make them often. Anyway, there are at least 20 of them, made of good quality origami paper, and they obviously spent time on these. They look like this:The question is, what the heck to we do with them? Other than being a very appealing toy for my cat, I can't think of a good use for them but don't want to throw them away. And anywhere we set them where the kitty can get them will ensure their destruction. Any ideas on what to do with these?

Re: Paper cranes

• Oh those are neat! You could make some into christmas ornaments.

• Make a mobile! Or hang them from string in a window for some pretty color, at different heights! Or set them on a pretty charger with some candles (in glasses!) or a vase of flowers.
• I think that's awesome that they used that as the packaging stuffing. I would probably just go hide them in random places around the house and laugh whenever my FI found them.

• This reminds me of my friend's bf who made her 100 paper cranes for Christmas one year (well, he filled a box of them and a Tiffany necklace).  She did something really cool with them and I can't remember what.  Moral of this story, there IS something you can do and I will get back to you when I find out!
• Baby mobile? You know, for later...

• Salt, once again you are full of awesome ideas. That's perfect, then we could send them a closeup pic of our tree in their Christmas card as a surprise. :) I think they would appreciate it. Also, my sis/MOH had people surprise me with Christmas ornaments for my shower, so I love this idea even more of wedding stuff turning into ornaments. I think I'm doing the thing that GG mentioned about putting some of the wedding flowers into an ornament globe (Jamiebeth's idea?).

• I second the mobile idea. Or you could put them on wires and make sort of a paper-crane bouquet.
• Ditto Salt and Bec's ideas, another out of kitty reach thing -- you could get one of those shadow box frames and stick them in there if they're not too wide.
• Bec - I knew you'd come through w/the creative. :)Vally - That's funny, though I think my cat would be the first to find them, and then nobody wins. Andress - Definitely, let me know, and thanks!Lpstl - Sneaky, the baby vibes keep coming... ;)

• I love the Christmas ornament idea. You might even want to set up a small counter-top tree and just have these on it. That'd make a cute CP.
• You guys are awesome with all the ideas! Thank you so much. Except for Giant Crane Tampons... those look uncomfortable.

• I believe they are good luck.  I always put my cranes in my bamboo plants.Don't feel bad about throwing them away though; they aren't hard to make.  My friend had to fold hundreds for her sister's wedding (they are Japanese).  She folds them whenever she is bored.  I have dollar bills she folded as well as starburst wrappers...

I don't get married often, but when I do, I do it in Las Vegas.

• Super, super late to this.  Sorry.  BUT -- that's a good luck charm in the Japanese culture.  So, literally, you should put them anywhere you need luck.  But, I like the Christmas ornament idea.  They also make pretty decorations for wreaths, I think.(FYI, a "lucky" marriage would have 1000 cranes at the wedding.  Makes my fingers hurt to think about folding that many.)
