Registry Q: dinnerware

I don't have time to go to the store and check out the dinnerware before I register for it. I have pfalzgraff and it chips SO easily on my granite countertop! Any recommendations for brands/materials that are more durable (other than corelle)? TIA!

Re: Registry Q: dinnerware

  • We have two sets of Mikasa and love it. No issues to speak of.
  • Um, fiestaware? I mean, seriously, if you want it to last...

  • I seriously wish when I registered for everyday dishes that I'd registered for Fiestaware.  I love that stuff and may end up chunking my old stuff in a year or so.
  • Fiesta Ware. I haz it. There have been so many times I've dropped things and recoiled, expecting them to shatter. It's always a nice surprise when there isn't so much as a crack. Plus, it's fun to mix and match colors for place settings!

  • I have Mikasa, "French Countryside" and it survives the marble counter tops (and everything else) very well.Medium priced, and good quality
  • My cheaper dishes are Correlle, and they don't break. I also just bought some dishes from IKEA when we moved into our new place. I think its the Dinera line. They have been surprisingly durable given my clumsiness. They dont have a registry, though, but you might could add them to a universal registry. But then again, you are probably looking for something fancier.

  • Some friends of ours had people donate some fiestaware for their wedding dinner last year. Which obviously worked well, since you don't have to match it.My mom complained that my plates were all chipped when she was here last week. Oh well.

  • Ok, I just broke down and called BB&B to talk to an expert. I told him that I wanted white. He recommended Bone, then Porcelan, then stoneware. I went with Bone. We're an accident-prone couple. I have had this pfaltzgraff for only a year, and half the pieces are chipped from me casually nicking it on the countertop as I put it in the dishwasher!! I like that Mikasa antique white, too.
