New York for a night?

My FI can't get enough time off work for us to go on a honeymoon. We are getting back home from our wedding (its in another state) on a Tuesday and he doesn't have to be back at work until Friday. Would it be pointless to go somewhere like New York just for one night? We would get there around 10am on Wednesday and leave Thursday late afternoon... Totally pointless or fun?

Re: New York for a night?

  • How far are you from NY?  I would do it if I wasn't going to spend more time traveling to/from the destination than at that place.

  • I don't think it would be pointless.  You would just have to narrow what you want to do down to one or two things rather than trying to cram all of NYC into one day, which would be crazy.

  • We're in D.C. but we would fly so it would be a really, really short flight
  • Sounds like a great idea, then!

  • Not pointless at all, your flight is less than an hour, not bad at all.If this was myself, I would make reservations at a really nice restaurant, get tickets to a Broadway show and stay at an awesome hotel.  Make it a very romantic and special night!
  • I live in upstate NY and have been to NYC many times just for a day, not even a night! Check what's playing on Broadway. See a show, eat a sweet dinner, and make a little whoopie in an awesome hotel.
  • Great minds think alike Imp!
  • If it's not a busy weekend, I'd honestly drive.  By the time you deal with airport nonsense, it'll take you the same amount of time and it'll be cheaper. If you're interested in a show, you can get tickets beforehand or you can go to the TKTS booth at Duffy Square for 50% off same day tickets.  There's usually a line, but it moves pretty fast.  You used to have to pay in cash/traveler's check, but I think they now take credit cards.
