XP: What are you NOT looking forward to this holiday season?

I work in a grocery store and I am not looking forward to the busyness of the checkstands. Especially with the new self checkouts that we have only had for a week.I'm not looking forward to the possibility of spending Christmas away from my family for the 3rd year in a row. I'm hoping work gives us the time off and that the passes stay clear so we can make it to eastern Washington. What are things that you aren't looking forward to in the next couple of months.

Re: XP: What are you NOT looking forward to this holiday season?

  • My boss has decided that we will be open for lunch and dinner leading up to xmas, and probably after. He has also decided he won't hire any more managers so it leave myself and the other manager to work twice the amount of shifts. And he is going away on holiday, so he can't fill in for a shift or two.Buying xmas presents. I love it but I always spend way too much money.
  • Going through the next stage of the visa process and possibly being stuck here for the holidays instead of spending them with H.

  • We are trying to sell our place and we have an interested buyer.  We can't put an offer in for the place we want until they give us a firm offer........... I envision a lot going down during the holidays. We had a very inexpensive trip to Orlando planned starting next weekend but after we had all of our reservations in and quite a bit paid for, the schools changed 1 week in their calendar and of course it was next week.  The boys couldn't miss that much school so the ONLY time we could reschedule is for Christmas and my uber cheap trip has turned into a giant sucking cash cow.
  • aMrs - Do you have to stay in Aussie until your visa comes thru? So you can't even visit H in France or your family?
  • bubbleJ, it's complicated.  I can travel, BUT my finacee visa expires 26/11, so I need to be back here by the 25th.  At that point I can apply for a bridging visa that allows me to travel, but again, I'd have to be back here before that expires.  If I'm gone and the spousal visa is approved, I have to fly back ASAP to get it.  And then leave again With plane tickets off this island going for $1800 or more, thats a bunch of money.

  • amrs- yeah its expensive getting off this island too, otherwise I would be gone. The only word for it is sucks. Hope you have a good xmas anyway, will this be your first xmas with a BBQ and 40 degree weather?
  • If I am here for a 40 degree xmas w/o DH...I'll be spending the holiday alone becuase no one will want to be around me.  No one should ever spend a day in 40 degrees, let alone xmas.

  • im not looking forward to coming up with the cash for 50 billion gifts right after my wedding.
  • aMrs - Eating xmas dinner while sitting in a swimming pool is an interesting experience and one you will probably have this year :) I have spent a couple of xmas's in QLD due to having family there and we just got out of the pool to get food and drink. It is just too hot to do anything else
  • We won't be in QLD until next June/July. I don't swim and nobody I know here in Perth has a pool or has access to one. You are not helping my mood.  I was already got sick when it hit officially hit 35 here, but I know it was 100 F at the house).

  • Awww I'm sorry aMrs, I didn't know hot weather did that to you. That really sucks, especially living in Aussie. And its a shame you don't know anyone with a pool. Thats me stereotyping Aussie, I thought everyone had one. I honestly hope you have a good christmas :)
  • Yep I get sick.  I never did well with the heat to start with, but then one summer we were out racing in 100+ and I developed heat exaustion bordering on heat stroke.  Ever since, I get sick straight away.  Oh and lets add the asthma that kicks in when it gets too humid... yes DH knows this, but I can tell by his reactions that he thinks I'm over exaggerating, so I'll go along with the experiment and let him see for himself.  I'm sure we'll be moving south not long after we move in.

  • Oh that really sucks aMrs. I'm sorry if I offended you earlier, I didn't know that you got really sick. I get asthma really bad in winter, so I'm the opposite of you, I love the hot weather.
  • you didnt say anything offensive.  Now, when it was 100 here and DH and his family were telling me "oh, bah, it's just starting to get nice out"...THAT was offensive.  Bunch a freaks they are.

  • I am not looking forward to my mom's reaction when she finds out we're spending Thanksgiving with FI's family.I am not looking forward to dealing with the crazy that's overtaken my family re: being in the wedding.  My aunt and uncle are pissy that their less-than-two-at-the-time-of-the-wedding grandson isn't going to be the ring bearer and they keep making bitchy comments about it.  And my mom thinks that the appropriate response is to make one of them a reader to shut them up.  Yeah, that's why I want people in my wedding--to shut them up.  Awesome.

  • How busy my office is going to get right before Christmas. Also, we're spending Thanksgiving at my FI's aunt's house, and I hear his nana's stuffing is so bad it's legendary.  Not looking forward to that, either.

  • I cant say theres anything im not looking forward to. Christmas is my favourite time of year, hands down. I would be happier if it was late november right now instead of october so I didnt have to wait as long.
  • Oh Brie, I feel your pain. FI has two nephews, both 3, and a niece who is 6. One FSIL understands completely that we don't want kids in the wedding, and one is still ticked that her DD and DS are not ring bearer and flower girl. I have a little girl; if I wanted a flower girl I would have used her! Jeeeeez. I'm really looking forward to the holidays this year. The only think I'm dreading is figuring out the Xmas schedule with the EX. Last year he pitched a fit and wanted just us and the girls on Xmas morning, so FI stayed home and I was alone on Xmas Eve until the girls came home from his family thing. Then the next morning he showed up, stayed for 15min. and said he had to go watch skankwhore's kid open his presents. WTF? I claimed Xmas morning for myself that day, and he can see them on Xmas Eve. I just hate thinking about being alone eating chinese and watching A Christmas Story again. I need to make a plan to be somewhere with someone. FI is on the radio until 9pm, so I will figure something out!
  • awe bec.  It looks like my odds of being alone on x-mas eve are pretty good too.  We can exchange skype names and eat chinese food together via webcam!

  • The fact that there are always truckloads of goodies delivered to the office and I can't touch any of them if I want to fit in my dress.

  • As usual, trying to figure out what to get my mother for Christmas.  Once that's done, it's all downhill.

  • Not looking forward to the snow and cold weather. I hate having to scrape off my car every morning.
  • We live in New York City, and I work right by Rockefeller Center.  I HATE the crowds in November/December.  I do basically all of my Christmas shopping online because the scene in the stores is so vile.

  • We are not even married an my in-laws-to-be are already driving me nuts with holiday drama. FI and I decided to do dinner at my sister's place, but go to see his family before or after that. I have been accused of trying to keep FI from his nieces. Somehow his father does not want to hear the part where we say we are going to see BOTH families. Christmas will be a whole other kind of war, I feel it coming....
