What should the groom wear??

Hi! I am having an informal, outdoor, afternoon wedding next month. My colors are chocolate & cream with red accents, I'm actually wearing a cherry red dress (it's the second wedding for both of us). My question is what should the groom wear to coordinate but not look like one of the guests?? I thought about a black suit with a red shirt to match, no tie OR a black suit with a white shirt and a red tie to match my dress. He has a light khaki colored suit already, but I'm not sure if that would work for the Fall season, looks more like a Spring/Summer suit to me. My FI is NO HELP at all, he has no opinion either way, he said for me to pick whatever I think looks the best (typical guy). So I'm turning to you ladies for some HELP!!

Re: What should the groom wear??

  • I would say since he has a khaki suit already, if it's heavy enough for him not be chilly outside, then he should just wear that with a red tie. If it's too lightweight, then a black suit with a white shirt and red tie will do the trick.
  • I like the idea of the black suit, white shirt, and red tie.  I think that would look really nice with your red dress, without overdoing it on red
  • I agree - dark suit, white shirt, red tie.  I really don't like the look of dark/bright coloured shirts under suits (such as black, red, purple etc).
  • I like the idea of a kahki suit.  It will look more informal than a full blacksuit, which is ideal for a casual afternoon affair.  As long as the fabric of the suit isn't full linen, I don't think you have to worry about it being the wrong season.

  • I think he should take this opportunity to purchase a dark suit. Dark is more appropriate for the season. The material is important as well - buy something in wool, for example. Besides, a dark suit will be needed for future weddings, funerals, baptisms, graduations, interviews, etc. My husband couldn't function socially or in business without a black suit.
  • I like the black suit idea. What about a chocolate brown colored suit with cream shirt, and red tie?
  • Hmmmmm thanks for the ideas ladies! His khaki suit was purchased for his sister's wedding last May, but it's not a linen suit. That may work with a white shirt and a red tie...it would also save us from spending very much more money, just a red tie!!
