See.  This.  This is what's wrong with parents today.  The placenta is not meant to be kept and memorialized.  Bronze the freakin' baby booties or whatever and be done with it.  Let bodily fluids and tissue be disposed of properly.You do not need to honor the placenta.  Do not bronze your vag.  Avoid having a statue of your uterus placed beside your TV.  Skip the artists rendering of you in childbirth.No. One. Cares.

In the Philippines (traditionally at least) the dad plants a tree and buries the placenta under it to commemorate the birth of a child. His "labor" of creation is supposed to mirror the moms. I think that this is cool, in an abstract, I'm-not-doing-it kind of way.

AC - I was lurking on a message board on babyzone (mostly to see if they were as crazy as thebump).  There were about 4 pages of responses which started out as: "Eww, gross" and then somehow evoled to, it's NMS, but... Which is almost equivalent to "it's ok."

Okay, I'm going to be sick.I've heard of what AC posted, and think it's kind of cool in an abstract sense, if you really want to honor the placenta. This is just going too far though. It's like when people have an organ removed and they want to keep it on a jar by the bed. Hello kids, this isn't like your pet rock. No one needs to meet Mr. Liver or Ms. Placenta during cocktail hour.

I think some people cook it and put it into meals that would normally have beef or liver in them. Some people believe eating the placenta can help with postpartum depression or other things.  I don't think I could do it.  I know that I couldn't.  I have already had a baby, and that wasn't on my agenda to get the placenta.
