Registry List Question

No, I'm not asking how far in advance I should register or anything like that. I am wondering, what big things did you or are you registering for? FMIL says we should register for a propane grill, like a $600 grill. I've never seen anybody register for something like that before, so I was just curious.

Re: Registry List Question

  • We registered for a huge TV, mainly just to get the discount afterward, but ILs bought us one as a gift so we took it off the registry. We also registered for a wine bar thing that was about $150 which DH's  coworkers (who were not invited, felt bad) got us, but other than that we didn't register for any big things. Now comparing our registry to others I've seen, I kind of think we didn't have enough stuff over $75, but  oh well. We ended up buying a lot of it with money we got anyway, so I feel confident that people got us what they wanted to get us.

  • I think the biggest item on our registry was our KitchenAid mixer.. $350 or something. My best friend registered for a $600 duvet when she got married. If there were bigger items that we needed, we probably would have registered anyway to take advantage of the discount we'd get to purchase it ourselves.

  • we are registered for a vaccum, wine rack, mixer, ect. I just saw someone bought the $100 george foreman grill we had on there. I think sometimes groups of people like to go in on large gifts together.
  • I know we are registering for things like a mixer and a good set of pots/pans, which will be more expensive. I had just never seen a grill before. I have kept in mind the discount though.

  • We're registered for a $550 Dyson animal hair vacuum.  We don't expect to get it, but we're going to use the completion discount and gift cards to buy it.  Also, a lot of times in my family groups of people buy things together for larger gifts.Other "big" things:Pots and pans set--$400Kitchen Aid stand mixer--$300Luggage--$199/pieceOur china is also $140/serving.HOWEVER, we also have a lot of small items on the registry.  We need pretty much everything, so there's a lot to choose from.

  • My registry is fairly similar to Brie's.  My biggest items are...-Vacuum-China-Luggage-Pots and pans-Knife set (wurstoff...sp?....one of the best there is)I didn't want to register for anything really big like a tv because I didn't want family and friends to think I expected them to cough up a lot of money.  But to get the big discount is tempting.  Hm...maybe the Sears registry that no one is going to visit because I has tools on it....hmm indeed.

  • Some friends of ours got married last year and wanted a grill but didn't register for it because they thought it looked greedy.  FI and I got it for them.  FI and the groom had been deployed together, etc.  It was definitely more than we would have spent on most people, but they've been great friends and deserved it.  You might be surprised what people want to get you.

  • Aside from the china (there was a $200 teapot in that collection) we also registered for a nice pot which cost close to $200. Nothing else was more than that.

  • We registered for a buffet... We expect no one to buy it but the discount we get after made it worth it!

  • We also registered for some of the bigger stuff at Macy's for their discount.  But I sometimes still feel guilty looking at my registry (to the point where I feel the need to TELL people we only put it on there for the discount, which I should probably just stfu about).  We have more than a few "bigger" things on there.  Our Crate and Barrel registry though, pretty much everything except 3-4 items are $25 or under-Two pieces of luggage which are $540 each when not on sale (luckily they're usually on sale for $240 each)-Comforter for $200 (usually on sale for $80)-Steak knives for $169 (only come in a set of four so had to register for two sets; the only cutlery we're registering for)-Bedding set for $375 (usually on sale for $225ish)-Toaster oven for $180 (sale $130)-Cuisinart GriddlerI'm HOPING that if anyone does end up getting us one of the more expensive things that they know to wait for a sale time!!!
  • My FI and I have registured for some larger priced items to take advantage of the discount afterwards (and to use the gift cards for them also LOL). I also made sure to put items of different prices on my registry so that it would fit everyone's budget.  But I am very surprised at how some of the larger priced items have actually been bought off our registry, I guess it all depends on the person buying the gift.
