Photographer Booking Tips

Hey girls! I need some P&E help today. This will be a post and run because I have to run to class, but I'm going to check back in before the meeting.I'm meeting with a photographer tonight - I'm pretty sure I'm going to book them- and I'm wondering what tips you may have for me that I'm probably not thinking of (and maybe some obvious ones too)These are the guys I'm meeting:http://tinyurl.com/yhl5c48

Re: Photographer Booking Tips

  • Make sure you like the photographer's personality, not just their work.  You're going to be with them all day on your wedding day so it's important that they not be someone who's going to get on your nerves.
  • Have you asked to see an entire wedding from beginning to end?  That way, you're not just seeing what they want you to see.
    Matt loves Munkii!!!
  • Ask what his back up plan is in case HE can't make it that day (illness, car accident etc).  And then ask to see the back ups portfolio.

  • If you decide to book them.  I would put a deposit down, but don't pay them the full amount until after you get your photo's... I did a deposit down, half the day of the wedding, and the rest 6 weeks later when we got the final pictures back... Most photographers edit the pictures, but this is still a good question to ask.
  • - How long do they intend to work within the terms of the contract- Do they have an assistant (info for your dinner count)- Do they charge overtime?- Have you seen the unedited photos of an entire wedding, not just the examples they show on their site?- Do they prefer lists or to freely take pics?- What happens if they can't make it? Is there a contingency plan? Can you get your money back? Do they have a backup photographer?
  • - How many pics do they take a night?- What percentage of the pics are edited?- How long does it take to get the photos back? Is this guaranteed?- Are the prices subject to change?
  • Get EVERYTHING in writing. Our photographers' work is awesome, we still adore them as people, but they stink at running their own business. I wish I'd triple checked that every single little promise they made was in our contract, but unfortunately, I was in love with their work and overlooked that lots of little things were left out. It didn't seem like a big deal when I booked them, but now I wish I had some recourse for things like our proofs taking two months to come in, important shots being missed, and for the photographers leaving the reception early.
