Hall Rental: Are you kidding me?

I just called a local fire hall to get info for the reception. The flat rental fee is $1600, and all it includes is use of the tables, chairs, and kitchen. Give me a break!

  • Wow our fire hall rental is $475 and that includes the tables and chairs.  $1600 is insane!  Though you know, the other fire hall charged like $5 per person or something so it would have been $1,000 for us to have it at that one.

  • If only I could find a way to cause and "accident"...
  • My parents got married at the fire hall. I think they got it for free because my dad was a firefighter. The best part was the picture of them on the fire truck. Clearly I was not there to witness it, but my brother's god parents did the same thing, and I was their flower girl.

Give me a break! For how many people and in what area of the country?  $1600 doesn't sound that unreasonable to me if it is seating for a good number of people.
  • That does not seem all that bad to me.

  • $1600 wouldn't seem that bad but it's a FIRE HALL. Not a hotel ballroom, not some kind of conference room. Fire hall. Unless I'm missing something, fire halls here in CT are basically a painted concrete floor, cinderblock walls, and maybe a few nicknacks to spruce up the place. They also have a lingering scent of diesel fuel. $1600 to rent what I'm describing is about $1200 too much. I dunno.. are they snazzier in other areas of the country?
  • Not a fire hall, but there's a place around here that charges $6000 just to use the site.  By the way, that doesn't include the attendants that you are required to have, or tables, chairs...really anything except space.  You might have to expand your search area or look at other space options.

  • jenny - the firehalls I've been to have been a little nicer than that, but they are pretty simple. I still do not see that as a bad price.  Chairs, tables, kitchen, electricity, insurance, etc.  All cost money to have and maintain.

  • So that's a good price??? I am way out of my league on that one....Vegas, here we come!
  • I'm not saying it's a good price or not. I do not live there so I'm not sure what things cost there. I'm just saying it's not really as bad as you are making it out to be.  Your local board would be a better gage if it's a reasonable price or not.  I live in a HCOL area

  • I DID encounter rental costs of upwards of $4k-6k which didn't include any kind of rentals - chairs, lighting, etc. Which I passed on, thankyouverymuch. My dad's firehall was built new and it was actually pretty nice. Big bar area in the basement, and the upper hall was just that - a hall. Not the garage where they keep the fire trucks! It was for events.
